Great place to people watch while shopping and site seeing in Old San Juan. Beautiful old buildings with a Spanish flare. Many different types of stores. Something for everyone.

We took the free tram to the fort. There are lots of trolley stops you can hop on that drop you off at the fort. There are two forts and one entrance fee covers both admissions. There is lots of walking and not much shade to sit and rest. Very interesting and lots of history. Lots of reading to get the most of your visit. Did not spend as much time at this fort as we visited the other fort first.

There is something magical about this spot - it will bring your faith back. Nice walk to the place down cobblestone streets with side cat alleys. There is a small place to purchase trinkets next to it when open and the pigeon park next door is wonderful too. Must do. Read the history and legends before you go please. Thank you!

Although I heard several versions of the legend of the chapel, one could get a feel for what could have possibly happened - the stones of the pavement are quite beautiful and have withstood 500 years,

Many stores, church, hotel, places to munch. The legend states that when the buggies were used at the top of the hill, the horse got spooked and ran down with a child inside. The father asked God to save his child and wherever he was saved he would build a church. The spooked horse stopped on the verge of a cliff. Must see. Also you and family can feed the pigeons to the right of the El Cristo chapel.

We were sent in this direction by the staff at Don Collins Cigar Shop who were recommending places for a cocktail. This is a great spot in Old San Juan if only to soak in more of the character and architecture. It was excellent for people watching and we did stop for cocktails at the place on the east side of Calle del Cristo but I have lost the name of the bar! We sat along a wall overlooking the bay and met one of the local cats who came to say hello while we sipped on our wine watching the sunset.

Beautiful street with the church at the end and a park next to it. We were lucky to run into this lady that gave us tips on where to go and what else to do. Puerto Rico has very friendly people.

This is one of those pretty streets in Old San Juan. Pay the church a visit. Check out the small shrine at the southern end - apparently there were horse races along the street long ago and a noble man's son raced straight of the cliff and survived the fall. There are also a couple of bars and restaurants you can check out. You can see the entrance to the Governor's mansion and tour gardens if you wish. Also worth a visit in the area is the San Juan Cultural Society (on the same street as entrance to Governor's mansion) they have great selection of music on sale and sometimes host concerts.

The chapel at the south end of Calle de Cristro is worth the walk. We passed this on the "Tastes of San Juan" tour (which I recommend) and came back the next day for pics. Calle de Cristo also passes by the old cathedral and is a good way to get between the two main 'shopping' areas, Calle de Tetuan and Calle San Francisco.

Old San Juan has so many great things to see and the streets are all cobble stone and narrow. Calle del Cristo is just another one of the old historic streets in the town.

looking down at the cemetery from the plaza was a great view. Some special to see as you are walking in old San Juan.

I too was disappointed that we couldn't get in. This entire area of the city is lovely. Plenty of things to see and photograph.

Although this is a very crowded street, at the end of the street you will be surprised by a tiny chapel with a beautiful altar and a very interesting story. In the background, there is a fantastic view of the sea and the cruises anchored in San Juan. A must see.
