While visiting St. John/St. Thomas we visited Water Island and took a nice walk from Honeymoon Beach out to the southern tip and Fort Segarra, originally built to protect the entrance to St. Thomas harbor. There are two large gun emplacements, a watchtower and some underground bunker to explore. Bring a flashlight to help your exploration. And definitely walk up to the top to enjoy the amazing views all around. We were fortunate to have a clear day and were able to see many of the surrounding islands. There are other great views and bays to see as you walk the island. You can visit Honeymoon Beach after for lunch and a swim!

Four of us rented a golf cart and toured the entire island. What amazing views !The old gun turrets and tunnels built in world war two were very mind boggling. The lunch at Heidi's on the beach was delicious. Fun ,Fun,Fun

I "clicked" there is a fee, but that is for the ferry ride to get to Water Island. Open air bus takes you to the main beach. Heard good things about Dingys Beach Bar, but only had one quick drink. Great beach and acceptable snorkeling - but so close to Charlotte Amalie

Jeff took us on a free truck ride to a secluded beach spot. I snorkeled and saw a sea turtle and loads of fish! It was beautiful and I didn't want to leave!

Short ferry ride over. Short walk (rides available). Beautiful beach, calm waters and great food. Fun and easy excursion when staying on St. Thomas.

But this was such an amazing island just the way it is. It is quiet, beautiful, and fun and the locals are amazing!

Get away from the cruise ships, the sunburned shoppers, noisy cars. Nice sea breezes, beaches, great running roads.

My husband and I had great fun while on this island! We rented a golf cart from a girl named Rachel ($ 30) and just cruised around the island (staying away from the roads marked private and no trespassing.) The beach was crowded, but it's one of the best we've been to! We ate at Dingy's, but wished we would've eaten at Heidi's instead. When we went there were a ton of mosquito's so make sure to bring bug spray!!! You can take a ferry to Water Island from Crown Bay for $10 per person round trip. It gets crowded fast, so be sure to make it there a little bit earlier, otherwise you'll be waiting on the dock for it to return, which would be another 20-30 minutes....

I almost hate to write a review about this pristine place, as I would hate to see it become overcrowded and "touristy"....but, I found out about it from Trip Advisor, so I feel I should pay it forward with a review.First, I hate crowds. I hate being herded on and off a "tour" bus like cattle and only being able to see the area from behind a window. I also didn't like the idea of milling around in St. Thomas with thousands of other cruise passengers. Did I mention I don't like crowds? So, when deciding what I should do while the ship was docked in St. Thomas, I was lucky enough to happen upon some reviews about Water Island. This is not the place if you want to shop, as the only two establishments on the island are two beach bars on Honeymoon Beach. For me....it sounded like paradise!I took the water taxi (small boat) to Water Island from the Crown Bay Marina (where my ship was docked), and it was a pleasant and quick ten minute trip to get to Water Island....aka paradise. If your ship docks at Havensight, you would have to take a taxi over to Crown Bay in order to get the water taxi to Water Island. Before leaving home, I made reservations for a golf cart with Kelly's carts. When I arrived, she was waiting by the dock with carts for the folks who had made reservations. She was very nice and gave us a run down of the island, provided a map and reminded us to drive on the left side of the road (which was difficult to get used to). Fortunately for me, there wasn't much traffic because I found myself on the right side of the road a few times!!I toured around the island on the golf cart, stopping for pictures and taking in the natural beauty. I settled in for a few hours at Honeymoon Beach and had lunch and a drink at Heidi's on the beach (best fish taco ever). To be honest, I got lost several times, but since the island isn't that big, I found my way back without difficulty....it was a fun adventure. This is a place I would visit again and again....I can't recommend it enough for those who want to get away from it all.

sixth time to St Thomas and first to water island. Loved it. Great snorkeling. Rented a golf cart from Kelly's carts ( a must do). Susan met us at the docks and off we went. Honeymoon bay was beautiful, lunch was a bit expensive. When we couldn't find the fort, Susan from Kelly's carts said "come on" and showed us personally hoe to get there. great day, we'll be back!

Honeymoon beach on water island used to be a lovely small, quiet cove. You can get there via the ferry at crown bay marina and there are two great food truck bistros with good food (the new lion fish at Dingys and the sweet sausage sandwich from Heidi's are my favorite). The crowd, for the most part used to be sailors, people living there or renting homes on the island, and the ferry passengers who made the trek to get there. We returned yesterday to find this paradise invaded by cruise ship groups who were brought there in droves. We counted 8 separate excursion boats with more than 150 passengers each (the Kon Tiki glass bottom boat must have brought over 200 people - it looks like a huge floating house). Unfortunately, we watched many of these people leave their trash on the beach, kick soccer balls into sunbathers, and fill up a beach that is really too small for such crowds. Every hour, a new excursion boat arrived with more people, and though the beach is public, The beach does not have many shaded areas and is really not kid-friendly, so these crowds of people just wander around looking for shade and end up in the parking area only to be eaten by,the mosquitoes. I am certain that the residents of Water Island must be upset over this constant invasion and decimation of what used to be one the loveliest places. It was a very sad realization to know that we will not return to one of favorite places.

If you are visiting STT and have a boat or you can take the day ferry over to Water Island- just a small quaint beach - not crowded- no fast food - no shops- pack a lunch and take a cooler- sometimes a food vendor/ bar cart is open- best to go prepared- just a relax day! We used to own a house in STT and this was our little get away on our boat- they actually shot some footage for Benjamin Button on this small island-

My husband and I visit Water Island, at least, once a year! If you're looking for a getaway, this is it! Water Island is a small residential Island right in the harbor of St. Thomas. There is one pizza place that's only open on weekends (unless you ask the owner to open for something special), golf carts and bikes are then only way to travel, and Honeymoon beach couldn't get any better with it's seaside bar and grill and Palm covered seating. Only draw back is grocery shopping. It's always an adventure taking coolers and bags on the ferry and taking a 2 minute walk to Pueblos. After shopping you can wait for the ferry back at Tickles Pub. Have lunch, a snack, or just a drink to kill the time while waiting for the next ride.

One of the best days on the island was exploring water island . take the ferry from crown bay and rent a golf cart from Kelly's. Then you explor ww2 bunker that you can climb in to, you can Drive all around the island and find a private beach or go to honeymoon beach and get some great food at hidi's grill and enjoy a nice day at a beach that isn't packed.

Take the ferry over and hike up the hill to the old fort. The view is amazing. Absolutely take flashlights if you plan to go inside the tunnels and be careful! Then hike down to the beach and enjoy rockin' food and drinks at Heidi's. Swim out to the circle raft and hold it as your kids jump off. Help them climb and play on the rope swing in the trees behind the beach. Walk back to the ferry to go home. Great day done and done! Our son loves this family day- and he sleeps sooooo well! Enjoy.
