Kawartha Nordic Ski Club is a not-for-profit, volunteer run, ski club that has classic & skate groomed trails. There is a two story chalet-style clubhouse with wood stove & passive solar heating to warm up in and prep your skis. Plenty of parking & dry toilets are onsite. Training trails are close to the chalet so it's a good place to practice on some small hills before heading out on the trails. Two warm-up cabins allow you to take a break to eat, dry out clothes, feed the birds [chickadees will land on your hand] & be on your way again. Trails are open to non members for a fee [typical rates]. Trails are groomed with pistenbully snowcats, so they are in very good shape. We've been visiting yearly for about 5 years now & never had a bad day there. It's a great place to find other people who enjoy the winter. The weekends are busy, especially on the skate trails & particularly on trails close to the chalet, so we prefer to head out to the trails that are further away from the 'traffic'. PL Owl goes through some beautiful woods with some nice hills. Overall most of the trails on the Kawartha & Trillium trails are nicely rolling so you have a nice run with a good variety of terrain. The Kenner trail is pretty flat [read boring], but if you like flat, you'll like it. Haultain/Apsley are in regions where you can count on the snow, so KNSC is a great place to find some good snow in a short drive time!
