Just near the Ecological Park in Alert Bay on Cormorant Island is a great campground. Nice grass sites. Easy access. Electric and hot water hook-up with dump station. Hot showers. Lots of firewood available. Many walks in the Ecological Park and lots of First Nations culture to see on the Island. Well worth the trip. Knowledgeable and helpful Park manager.

Alert Bay is rich in Aboriginal History, whale watching, fishing and best of all is the Alert Bay Ecological Park where a easy walking trail leads to a boardwalk built over top and through a second growth forest of hemlock and Sitka spruce trees dripping with sphagnum moss. A wheelchair or scooter could easily access this trail on trail number two. This is such a unique area where the trees create a eerie landscape nestled amongst a swampy landscape. Great for photography! Also great for bird watching - there are no predators on the Island - just birds - eagles, ravens, crows, song birds, woodpeckers, owls, and more! They are a communicative bunch and the cacophony they create can sometimes reach deafening decibals. The boardwalk is a little narrow however there are a few widened platform areas with benches where you can move out of the way for bicycles or others who are just passing through. We took our time through this area as it was really fascinating to see. There are more trails to access - in fact there is 16 km worth however we were had limited time before we had to catch the ferry to Port McNeil so this part was all we really had time for. It was fantastic and we highly recommend this beautiful part of the reserve.
