Never had such passionate tourguides and such a personal approach. Small groups and very knowledgable guides.

it was an awsome trip with in my opnion the best way to see the orcas and wildlife. A sailing ship with not to many people on it.

We crept out of Alder Bay on the sailing boat Tuan on a foggy morning but the sun soon broke through. We didn't do any sailing as there was no wind but we saw lots of Orcas feeding - and were virtually introduced by name. Maureen really knows her stuff. We also saw some humpbacks. If you want to read some more about what the trip was like, I suggest you go to the Seasmoke blog for 16 September this year. It's all good. Totally recommend.

We went with them as they highly recommended by our B&B hostess. This is a sail boat and can take only 12 people. We drove a fair way to see the Orcas. Lovely scones and tea.Dave and Maureen are wonderful people and with full knowledge of the wildlife.

We chose this particular whale watching trip due to the fact that they picked us up right from the Alder Bay Resort campground where we were staying - no need to get up early and drive to the more famous Telegraph Cove tour operators. We weren't disappointed. The boat was small enough that it didn't feel crowded and we could move around as we wished. We actually didn't see any Orcas on our tour as we had hoped but we weren't disappointed with the overall experience. We saw plenty of humpback whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and bald eagles. We were even fortunate to get a closeup view of a bald eagle flying in to her nest with a fish to feed two hungry eaglets! We really enjoyed our guide, Maureen, for her knowledge and wonderfully delicious homemade muffins and biscuits. She even served us high quality specialty teas in real tea cups. Nice touch!

This was our second trip and we had just as much fun as last time. Our fellow passengers were all interesting and from far flung parts of the world (Bangkok! London!) Although there is no guarantee that you will see whales, their percentage is over 90%, and you will always see porpoises and dolphins. Alert Bay is a cultural heritage center form the 'Namgis people with a fascinating collection of totems and more art at their cultural center. Beautiful town! Maureen and Dave are terrific hosts. I can't wait to go back again.

This is one for the bucket list. I have gone on many whale watching tours but have always managed to miss seeing the amazing orcas. We were not disappointed this day. We were able to watch 2 resident pods of whales feeding, breeching, tail slapping, spy hopping and doing what whales do. It was truly amazing. I would like to thank Dave and Maureen for their knowledge, and their ability to share this gift with us. PS. the scones, muffins and tea were the perfect touch.

We stayed four nights in the House Above The Bay. and also went whale watching on the Tuan. Both were wonderful experiences. The house was much larger than we had expected and served our needs perfectly. The wahale watching was wonderful. Maureen is a wonderful knowledgeable guide. We would recommend this to anyone interested in a quiet stay, and a great commune with Nature.B, K, and A

We did this boat trip with our three year old which went perfectly. They have childrens PFD's, and our little guy had a great time. Nice captain and assistant who tell you everything about the orca's whales, etc. Whe had about 12 tourists on board. Saw Minke whales, Humpback whales, Bald Eagle nest, Herring ball, Seals and lot's of Orca's. The muffins and scones are great. Whe didn't set the sails unfortunately, probable because there was't enough wind.

Seasmoke whale watching is an eco-friendly tour company that operates 10mins south of Port McNeil. I highly recommend using them to go whale watching as I had a very memorable experience. The tour guide and captain were both whale enthusiasts and beyond knowledgeable of the sea animals and their habitat. The tour guide baked homemade muffins and scones on board and served them warm with tea, such a treat!! We sailed quite a ways down the Johnstone Strait and saw 2 orca whales within 20m from the sail boat, a humpback whale, 2 minki whales, porpoises, jumping salmon and a herring bowl. The tour guide was just as excited as we were to see the whales, which enhanced the over-all experience. They ensured we saw the whales by extending the tour two hours, since the whales were ahead of our boat. Most companies would have headed back to shore and therefore we might have missed our chance to see these amazing mammals. Their price was $110 each. 1-800-668-6722 & 250-974-5225.ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful way to explore the marine life and learn about the area. Maureen and Dave are a wonderful team; knowledgable, warm and passionate about what they do. The sailboat is comfortable and there is plenty of space for everyone to sit and also move around for optimal whale watching. We saw humpbacks, minkes, dal's porpoises and seals. The porpoises entertained us as they swam under the boat zig zagging and popping up on both sides. Maureen's baking is another treat you will enjoy as part of this memorable experience.

We have been on several whale watching tours and boats over the years, and this was by far the best. The sailboat is comfortable and very well maintained. They only take small groups, so you are not crowded and get lots of personal attention. The day starts with wonderful hot fresh muffins and coffee or tea. The afternoon treat is even better. Foul weather gear is provided for wet or cool days. We saw all species of sea mammals that were in the area, and lots of great scenery....even though it was very foggy in the morning. Great value for money.

I have been on a Seasmoke Whale watching trip a few times in the last few years. I am always amazed at the passion, dedication, love & knowledge of Maureen & Dave of the orcas, humpbacks, minke's, eagles, porpoises (Dall's, Pacific White Sided & Harbour) marine birds, Stellar Sea lions, seals and anything on the ocean & the area. After over 25 yrs of taking people out on the their trips neither Dave or Maureen have lost their passion for the oceans wonders & sharing it with their guests. Maureen serves wonderful fresh baked muffins with coffee or tea on the way out & a Devonshire Tea on the way home which is well received by all.The Tuan is a wonderful quiet way to travel on the water & see the sights. Much quieter than the bigger motorized boats. I recommend this trip to everyone.

Maureen and David are the husband/wife combo that host the trip around the beautiful ocean passage that Orcas, Humpbacks and Dall's Porpoises call home. We saw all three of these majestic animals. Maureen's commentary and passion made the trip what it was so I'm pleased that I can recommend this trip to you. Enjoy. Thanks.
