The current show "Ring Of Fire - Project Johny Cash" is a must see. It is amazing. The music is grand and if you are from that era it will inspire many memories. Also, book in for the meal before the show. It is one of the best bufet's in the area. Wonderful food and great service.Altogether a good time for all.
Johnny Cash music and about his life!! They played trumpets, guitars and sang like him, and told his story! What a beautiful Theatre, and superb performance!
Just been to this excellent theatre to see the "Johnny Cash Project" show. REALLY a great evening of entertainment with non stop music used to weave the story of Cash's life. Cast and musicians performed so well that the evening flew by. Last time I enjoyed a show this much was at a London West End Musical!! And, by the way, there isn't a bad seat in the house. The pre-show dinner was very well presented with a delicious variety of choices from a huge selection at the buffetBecause this evening was so enjoyable, we went ahead and bought season tickets and can't wait for the next show and dinnerYou must go!!
All I can say is WOW!!!!! The show was amazing as the talent. I did not want it to end as time went by so fast.
A visit to Chemainus would not be complete until you have enjoyed a matinee or evening performance with dinner at The Chemainus Theatre....so quaint ,friendly and classy all in one .
Finding live theatre of this caliber in small town British Columbia might come as a bit of a shock. The theatre itself is fabulous-small, comfortable, excellent seating laid out so that all seats are good, good sound system, really great sets and staging, and top-notch professional acting. We have gone numerous times and have never been disappointed. You can buy an affordable package which includes theatre tickets, dinner at the buffet upstairs, and hotel accommodation at the well-appointed Best Western Plus nearby. We always do this and it makes a lovely getaway weekend. The hotel is new with rooms that include bedroom, bathroom and living room with kitchenette; self-serve breakfast downstairs is included. The town of Chemainus is right on the ocean, has numerous little galleries, gift shops, cafes and restaurants and is known for its wall murals which appear throughout the town depicting its history and heritage as a coastal logging and fishing community. If you are heading to or from Victoria for further touring, Chemainus is within easy driving distance. Very highly recommended.
We were visiting my brother on the island just before Christmas and as a treat, he took the four of us to this theatre. The lunch was marvellous, service wonderful and the play was great, just loved the twist on the Dickens 'Christmas Carol' with Holmes as Scrooge!
This Christmas I decided to buy my brothers and their wives tickets for the Chemainus theatre. The show was pretty good as was the food. But having bought 6 tickets for the show and 6 English buffet tickets as well, and only being able to use four of them, I was quite disappointed when I was refused any kind of compensation for the meal tickets. Now I understand that at the last moment they can't sell show tickets, although I did try to give the $49 each tickets away, with no luck, but I think that a good management decision would have been to offer me two meals with a show at a later date, with no cost for the meals, that's what I would have done. My thinking was that you can book six people into a restaurant and only four turn up, they don't charge you for the two that didn't arrive, so why should the Chemainus theatre. I wouldn't normally write something like this but it's been bugging the hell out of me.
We liked the gift shop and the bar but most of all the theatre is set up so no-one has a bad seat. The set on the stage was very good and the show was run very professionally.
Wonderful theatre experience, buffet lunch superb. Terrific live theatre and superb professionalism throughout. Real gem not to be missed.
we saw and excellent play in this small intimate theatre. we also had the most delicious lunch - buffet in the theatre. every dessert you could thing of. it was excellent. chemainus is worth a walk along the main street - it has interesting murals. it is a very small place and seems to be set back in time somehow
The Chemanius Theatre is always a pleasure to attend, but we found the latest show Sherlock Holmes and the Christmas Carol to be one and three quarter hours of the most boaring time spent watching live theatre. Very few laughs accompanied a common story theme watched over and over during our Christmas season in the past. Combined with Sherlock Holmes being visited by ghosts, it left little for the imagination. On the other hand, the acting was superb, but the show revealed very few audience laughs and at end left a fast dispersing crowd short of standing ovation. One last disappointment was intermission, two small glasses of wine were $16.10...., won't be doing that too soon in the near future. Brenda and Bryan M.
A party of 11 of us were pleased to attend an matinee performance of the current play 'Over the River and Through the Woods', a family comedy regards old time values. It was excellent, lots of laughs, some pathos, an excellent mix. The performances of each actor were outstanding, and you could easily relate to each of them. Well done the cast, so very well worth the drive in the terrible wet and stormy weather of the day. We also were pleased to have the buffet lunch before the show, as usual a good array of salad goods, and many varying dishes of main course dishes. However they did run out of the stuffed loin of pork, and several of our ladies group were limited in what there was left on the table when they were a little later going up for their meals, now that was disappointing I thought. Surely you must know how much Pork you need to cook. A substitute of beef was produced, but I had already eaten. Other dishes were fish, chicken, pasta, vegetables, and more. A good variety of desserts was also available including some favourites of English trifle, baked chocolate goods, fresh fruit and a large bowl of whipped cream, many other dishes were presented there too. The service was great as usual, and the pianist, as always, made for pleasant lunch time listening. It was enjoyable, but they do need to keep up with replenishing the buffet.
You can walk to this theatre from the hotel, if you're active, but this theatre is the gem of the town, great acoustics, great views!
Loved the dinner and the show. I understand they have upgraded the facility from our friends we were traveling with. I would recommend this experience to anyone. Just wish we lived closer to enjoy more often!
