we were so surprised that Picton isn't given more respect inn the guide books. Restaurants are good, scenery is lovely, hiking is great, boating options great, why isn't it given more respect. Piction is certainly more than just the kick off point from the ferry. So stay awhile.

We took the mail boat as it journeyed round to all the little communities on Picton Sound. The captain gave a knowledgeable and humorous commentary as we sailed round. This was a great way to see life here as it is for local people and see all the wonderful sights.

Awesome place to visit and look around! Taking the ferry lets you see the whole area at a nice pace, love the scenery!

And I'm a Kiwi, so that's high praise! I just couldn't get over the jagged native forest covered mountains all about dropping sheerly into the water. Gob-smackingly gorgeous! Never seen a town with such a spectacular backdrop. I'd last seen it as a child in the 60s. I remembered it as just a sleepy village, where the ferry got in. But it has grown up so nicely! It has everything. Scenery, restaurants, accomodation, even a cute-as high arch pedestrian bridge at the waterfront. Very chi chi. And the child was well impressed by the beachside Playarea. Full marks for Picton. What a gorgeous town. I can't wait to get back. Next time it will be a destination, noit just a point to pass through after the ferry. Enjoy God's Own Green Paradise In the South Pacific!!!

We just had a very short visit to this picturesque little town, the old fashion harbor , beautiful Ferries, the walk next to the water, all is very sharply edged In my mind! I wish we had more time to stay and explore! Make sure you do!

We came to the Picton area as we heard that it was a great place to walk, and we weren't dissapointed, it's also worthwhile to get on the water with one of the many tour campaniles as the scenery is beautiful especially on a sunny day

It was so lovely here. We have driven through it but never stopped. Now feel guilty. Lovely little shops, excellent resatuarant and cafes. Wonderful views of the sounds. Will definately go when next in the area!

People often whizz through Picton off the ferry from Wellington. It's really worth at least an overnight stop. It's a real working town, not a tourist trap and has a tiny museum and small botanical gardens. The best feature was our fabulous drive up Kenepuru Sound along the peninsula just west of Picton. The road distance wasn't far, but the road was so narrow and winding that it took hours. We loved the spectacular views.

Simply beautiful, we got to welcome in 2015 in this beautiful little town, spent a week there and definitely recommend Picton as a holiday destination

Was originally only going to stay for a night, before catching the Interislander Ferry. Glad that we changed our plans and stayed 2 nights, S Picton itself is picturesque, modern, clean, and a place to enjoy. Mini golf was particularly worthy of note, with the course based around local geographical and other features. Great walks to be had too, not least to the Snout, where you look out over the Marlborough Sounds - but beware of wetas when there - once snatched my wife's hat and made off with it!

Spectacular scenery. Saw Dolphins. Beautiful scenery. If you are travelling on the Interislander Ferry, go up out on the deck - you will be amazed at the natural beauty. Highly recommended.

Picton is a lovely quiet seaside town with many retirees as well as travellers commuting between North and South Island. The hidden treasure is the Marlborough Sound - definitely a must and if you get the choice experience the Sound via the mail ferry.

Took the ferry from the North Island to the South Island and ended up in this breathtaking small town of Picton. If anybody visits New Zealand. This is a must see.

Picton is a pretty seaside village with stunning views of the Marlborough & Queen Charlotte Sounds. The town has some excellent restaurants & cafes too. We stayed overnight in a very modern apartment overlooking Picton Harbour which was lovely. The best thing about staying in Picton is all the wonderful cruises & activities available at your fingertips with the added bonus of having the Marlborough wineries just 30 minutes away to explore. Overall - A "must Do" if visiting South Island New Zealand. You won't be disappointed.

One of the most beautiful places I have visited, ever. The water is so sparkly and clear, the green so brilliant it almost looks unreal. Absolutely a must see if you are in the area.
