This is a good spot to buy NZ gifts for the folks back home--things made of wool, crafted of NZ woods, glass, pottery. I don't know if items have been approved by a jury but they appeared to be given the quality. Prices are fairly reasonable too.
A great co-op of displayed local arts and crafts where you can buy authentic souvenirs. Service was good too - friendly and informative. Recommended
We stopped here to replace a hand painted silk scarf bought by a friend of ours ten years ago. The lady in charge is the same person and was able to sell us a similar scarf and a few for my wife. A lovely lovely place. Well worth a detour of highway six.
A local gallery that displays marvellous work from local artists. Well worth a browse to see if you can buy a memento for your trip to New Zealand!
We were looking for a gift and found this gallery. Fantastic handcrafts without budget blowout! There was so much to choose from, all original and lovely. The assistant was very friendly. A real treasure trove.
This is a must see when you're in Hokitika. It's a great place to buy some very nice and well priced souvenirs. There is a range of wood products along with paintings, great wooden bookmarks and jewellery. The staff are fabulous as well.
We were wandering around Hokitika looking at the various shops for gifts and things to bring home. We really hadn't found anything that appealed to us and that wasn't very touristy until we found the Hokitika Craft Gallery Co-Op. It was a unanimous opion between the three of us.We all bought things to bring back to friends and family. There is an excellent variety of crafts: wood, jewlery, woven, paintings, ceramic, pottery and more. It was all very lovely and well made.Everyone loved their gifts and I was sorry that I hadn't bought more. I didn't find any place that compared during our seven week visit to New Zealand. If you are in the area, this is a must stop in place!!
I wish I had found more shops like this one in New Zealand. We were in New Zealand for 2 weeks and this is the best shopping I had the whole time!
The Hokitiika Craft Gallery is a long-standing artists' coop with wonderful objects made in NZ by local craftspeople. Jade, wood from reclaimed trees, silver, ceramics. The local artists are often on site to tell you about their work.
We enjoyed a couple hours browsing and shopping in Hokitika, along with a nice lunch on main street. The highlight of the afternoon was the Hokitika Craft Gallery Co-op. No made-in-China junk here. This is a treasure trove of reasonably priced unique NZ souvenirs for the whole family.
Great local artists work in silk, wood, jade , bone and many other mediums. We were able to purchase great wood pieces reclaimed from Kouri stumps and others from sustainable Rimu. The gallery was able to ship it back to the States for us, though not cheap, worth it to avoid the hassle and weight of dragging it with our baggage. It just feels better to support local artists and their co-ops
With so many big shops bringing in jade pieces made from BC nephrite and carved/polished in Asia- I was thrilled to find local stonework! It was stunning. So many artists are represented- there's something for everyone. Paintings, silk, woodwork, pottery, jewelry and beautiful stonework, I highly recommend you stop in and have a look.
Beautiful hand-crafted wood, jade, sweaters and other articles at reasonable prices compared to other towns we visited. Co-op member provide personalized service and crafts are accompanied by information on the artists.
I found some good craft items here recently. I had been looking at several items as I was traveling around NZ. The prices at the Co-op were very good - cheaper than Auckland. I bought some lovely products made of native NZ woods like rimu. They have a nice selection.
