Liked: the beautiful beaches and Mt Strzelecki The red rocks and the white sands are gorgeous and to top it off is the turquoise waters!,Disliked: nothing
I took the walk up Mt Strzelecki make sure you are prepared and have boots and a backpack of supplies. It is about a 4-5 hour walk/climb. Make sure you purchase your Park Entry before heading down Trouser Point Road (AUD24.00 for car for 1 day) Watch out for snakes if you are there in the summer especially when you get above the tree line. Make sure you visit Trouser Point beach and also take the walk along the coast one of Tasmania best short walks.
The wildlife, clean air, and remoteness. The views across Bass Strait are well worth the climb up Mt Strzelecki, even from half way up!
It is stunning!! I feel at home in this wilderness! It is truly magnificent & powerful. There is a waterfall which runs throughout it, which has along it many water pools. These sites feel so sacred & potent.
Amazing views along the walk to the top. You can't get lost and you will enjoy the change of vegetation as you go up - starts with thick forest along a stream, goes to lovely grass and flower prairies and ends up as a bare rocky path towards the top. Should take you a couple of hours depending of your condition but anyone can make it. Keep some water in your car as there is nothing at the car park - although it will be hot by the time you get back you'll enjoy it ! A very fun and rewarding hike.
We visited Mt Strez on one of the few days that it wasn't under a cloud for the days we visited over the Xmas / New Year break. We probably got up about 1/2 way up as we hadn't intended on being able to do any walking. The path was so picturesque and very well sign posted. The contrast between the different points on the walk are amazing to experience along with the magnificent views you get of the island, valley and the mountain itself. We were wary of how steep and slippery the path was at certain points so good walking shoes are a must as well as having adequeate food and drink with you as well as clothing for all sorts of weather as it does change dramatically in quick periods. The wildflowers were in bloom and they were a majestic yellow colour. Certainly getting to the two streams is a must if you are not an avid walker as the views you will get along the way are quite breathtaking. This was a beautiful part of Flinders Island that we wish we had allowed more time to climb and experience the rest of the mountain as what we were able to see was quite spectacular.
I was attracted to Mt Strzelecki years ago when I heard people run up this mountain for the Three Peaks yacht / run race, but it's too pretty for hurrying through. The variety of vegetation was a surprise including hidden gullies of tree ferns and pockets of wildflowers. The track makes the easier path around the side of the main escarpment. And or course, the 360 degree views on the gloroius day we had really help your bearings for naming the several islands around. We began our walk early with Mount Chappel clothed in sea fog which slowly dispersed as we climbed. With good weather, we enjoyed more than an hour on top for lunch, map reading and sun bathing. Later that day, we cycled around the southern end of the park on a track impassable to cars with a few creek crossings and beaches all to ourselves. The warm coarse grains of sand on the beach east of Pigs Head Point made for a delightful foot massage.
Mt Strzelecki is an amazing walk. The vegetation changes dramatically as you ascend and was very cloudy the morning we did it. Had a breif clearing of the clouds as we stood on the summit and what a view. We'll be back!
