gan gan lookout

We made this walk on our first day and it was a relaxing way to start our beach holiday in the Nelson and Shoal Bay area. Well signed and with beautiful views. Good access, ask at tourist info for maps etc.

Awesome view of Port Stephens and its surrounding bays. Gets pretty crowded if tour buses are there. Best time to view is during sunset .

We were spending the next few days in and around Nelson Bay so decided to go to Gan Gan Lookout on the way into town. The view is spectacular and the lookout really allows you to orientate yourself to the surrounding area.There are directional arrows which allow you to know the names of the areas you are looking at.The Gymea lilies are beautiful and add to the view. The view south towards Newcastle over Stockton Beach is also very impressive.

We were driving North on holiday recently and called in to Nelson Bay. WE passed a sign for a lookout and decided to drive up. After a short walk past the transmission towers, you find the lookout which gives fantasic views of the Port Stephens bay area. There are informative plaques to let you know the history of the area and what you are looking at.Well worth stopping off.

Late afternoon would be great for photos of the Bay and coast. Still lovely at other times. A good spot to gain a geographical perspective of the area. Free.

Road is not the best for larger cars but this place is the best and easiest viewpoint of Port Stephens without burning a sweat

This is a great little spot. There are 2 good vantage spots either side. You can get some great panoramic shots here. Parking can be a challenge on the weekend and peak times. We tend to drop in to this spot on the way home as it's located on the outskirts of Nelsons bay as you are leaving.

worth the trip up the road and the views are amazing, nice to go to after being in the area for the week.

Accessibility and the view to everywhere it's a great place to see just how beautiful the natural surrounds are

Nearly killed me walking up there but so worth it - views everywhere - will do it again on my next trip to Nelson Bay

Pretty spot with a lovely view of the surrounding area. The gyema lilys were in flower and also we were lucky to see a land mullet (very large skink). It is a peaceful spot, no one there on the day we went up, just us and the view perfect.

If you pass near Nelson Bay, don't miss the Gan Gan lookout. Nice view and you could take nice pics. It's a small lookout, but you won't be disappointed.

has a great view over the water and pretty much 250degree view nice and high above it all. The lookout itself isnt nothing exciting to look at only the view here is what you go for. only about 10min drive from Nelson Bay CBD. not much signage to tell you were it is.

two minutes off the road, and worth the drive up to it, easy to walk out to and fantastic views out onto Nelsons Bay
