There are no staff at the goal so you need to go to the tourist info office to collect the key and audio guide, if you want one.Although the goal is in need of some TLC it is quite interesting and worth a look if you are interested in history etc.

Go to the Tourist Information Centre first and collect a key and audio tour guide. Costs about $10 + refundable deposit of $20 for the guide. The Tourist Centre will give you a gaol plan and instructions on how to enter. The old gaol's opposite the current police station, park in the street outside.This is in the early stages of restoration - it's been cleaned out, but little actual building restoration etc seems to have occurred. You get a stark picture of what it must have been like in the late 1800's. There's good audio, and some signage inside. Has great potential as a tourist venue; some more signs, details of prisoner life etc would help.It's an interesting visit; worth 30 - 60 minutes.
