Only a couple of Ks off the highway along a dirt road but well worth the effort.A unique attempt at sculpture using a number of the iconic Holden utilities. Each ute is different and uses a different theme. If you drive past the turn off and miss it you will regret it.The accompanying photo was taken in Forbes and shows the location of the utes.
In the back of nowhere just off the highway between Condobolin and Parkes is a display worthy of a look. Iconic Holden Utes have been painted by well known artists and depict outback life and its many challenges in the true Australian spirit. Over 16 utes have been painted and transformed into works of art and make for a memorable experience. Every ute has a plaque telling the story behind the painting.
Locals will rave, but it's a bit weird really. The paintwork has faded in the harsh Aussie sun. You have to see it just because all the locals will ask if you have seen it.
LOL this is a gem of a display,,must see of you want to go for a drive from parkes or forbes. its a paddock full of utes painted and decorated in themes and displayed in such a way as you can see them in all positions behind a barbed wire fence but don't worry you can take photos through the fence you just can't touch them of coarse,,the drive out there is great country driving so sit back and enjoy the trip,,,condobaline is not worth driving to after woods but go back to trundle and eat a meal at the hotel...
Went to see this fascinating display today. Just loved the Holden utes. Not much I can say other than if you are in the area, certainly worth a look.
Very interesting and very well done, lots of character and very well worth visiting, local council needs to do something about the road leading to this attraction.
Amazing art in the open. No facilities available but it should be expected in the outback! Great idea and very inspiring. We visited utes couple of years ago and now again and new utes are exhibited so definitely worth the visit!
Found these interesting and some of them very clever. They are free to visit which is nice and I don't know why I envisaged that they would be a short drive apart and that you would have to get in your car and drive to the next one. They are in fact all standing together a few metres apart. Note there are no toilets close by they are about 35 kilometres in one direction or 25 in the other.
We drove an hour out of our way from Parkes and thought it was worth the trouble. The artwork was very good. There was a certain sense of wonder standing in the middle of nowhere checking out these oversize iconic Aussie artworks.
It was an interesting concept, good it was free, as I would not really want to pay to see it, and a bit disappointed that the place looked somewhat neglected and the art work needs a refresh, its in the sun after all I understand. It is a dirt road to get to and then barbed sire fence, which at least helps keep vandals a bit at bay I guess.interesting to see at anyrate
Thanks for reading my review! So I was a local growing up but I really take my hat off to the work the Burrawang team have put into this project! Imagine not far from the main road between Condobolin and Parkes you have the opportunity to see art which showcases the work of some of Australian's best artists on a wide range of Holden utes. Yes I did say Holden utes - 15 of them - all withntheir own story. Go to the utes in the paddock website to get more information. I promise you if you are travelling in the central west it is worth the visit!
I think utes in the paddock is just wonderful its free not like alot of things these days and you just drive up and have a look
