My family and I love to go to Cape Kaliakra and we do it every year, combining the trip with a visit to Balchik and/or The Mussel Farm "Dalboka".There is a parking lot and a monument of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov. Then when you proceed towards the sea you commence to see remnants of old buildings (the foundations actually) - Kaliakra was the site of an ancient fortress. The best preserved is the entrance gate. There are very scenic views from the cape, especially from the tip of it. There is a small military compound as well and a small restaurant - Castello di Kaliakra. Unfortunately it is open only during summer (or while the weather is not cold). There is also a small museum which is open at the same time as the restaurant (not in winter). It's a pity to see that the site is not maintained and it looks quite shabby and neglected - many abandoned, rusty and bad looking selling stalls are there. It would be good to repair the stairs which lead down instead of putting warning signs "Danger - do not climb" (or something of the kind). Should not rely solely upon nature!!! Hope it is like that only in the winter!!!There is an entry fee of 3 leva. But in the winter I've never paid, simply because there is no one to pay to. I was there on 22nd of February and there were at least 15 cars, mostly with foreign plates. So, Kaliakra is visited all year round that's why it must look nice all year round!I give a 4 stars rating for the nature and for the fact that Kaliakra is important to Bulgarian history. 1 star for maintaining the place.

The Fortress of Kaliakra didn’t do a big impression on us. However, it is an interesting place to see once. There are the remains of old, stone buildings and a small, still operating military base on closed military area. In contrast, the views of the Cape Kaliakra are really amazing. We visited two magnificent view points. First one, with a view from the south side. Coming to Fortress Kaliakra, about 1.7 km before the parking lot (on the crossroad to the left) you should stopped the car and walk about 30-50 meters to the right from the main road. There is a cliff with picturesque views of the peninsula (coordinates: 43.379539, 28.453355). The second viewpoint is on the north side of the peninsula (coordinates: 43.382567, 28.471412). On the same crossroad where is the first viewpoint you should turn left. After about 1.1 km you need to turn right to the coast and drive about 0.8 km to the beach on the bay.

I first visited the place in 1997 and now again in 2014. I saw huge improvements of the facilities, there were more signs than before (of course, one can expect more improvements). Sometimes one can see dolphins in the waters below, so watch carefully. There's a small museum, ask for a guided tour. I forgot to ask about availability in other languages than Bulgarian, but you can check. A tip for lovers of off-the-beaten-track places - there are some steps which lead to a gate down below the main tourist site. I must warn though that it's NOT for people afraid of heights. For those, you could at least go a few steps down to take a picture of the gate (arch) as it is normally not seen very well from the main path. The steps start a little further away from the restaurant and museum on your way to the chapel. One more thing - entrance fee was paid on the road at the main gate. So if you're coming by car, be prepared. The ticket includes the parking fee, the entrance fee to the fortress, as well as the museum. There's a toilet - just enter the restaurant. There's a small fee for the WC.

If you are in Varna, don't miss a trip here. It's got a beautiful view along with wind turbine along the way but unfortunately, there are no specific transport to get there directly. You can board hourly bus from Varna to Kavarna which is the nearest city to Kaliakra. It costs somewhere between 10-15 lev and took 1.5 hours. After that, we took a taxi but unfortunately, this is where people can get cheated a lot. Its only 12km to Kaliakra from Kavarna but the taxi charges us 20 lev when it should have been 0.79 lev per km. But since there were no other transportation option, that is the only way to go there. So unless you have a driving license, I recommend you rent a car. Its better this way as you can stop and enjoy the sunflower fields along with the wind generator fields along the way. Also it costs 3 lev for entrance to Kaliakra.

Visiting Cape Kaliakra was the best idea. Outstanding views, beautiful sea and cliffs. We were glad to find even a restaurant: Castello di Kaliakra. Attention to details, clean, good service and a very tasty and fresh food. We ate in a few minutes with a view to remember. Overall a very good experience. Can't wait to do it again. As for the restaurant Castello di Kaliakra: Well done!

I went to Cape Kaliakra with my family a few days ago. Beautiful!! The sea, the cliffs...everything was amazing. A big surprise was the Restaurant Castello di Kaliakra...well...Brava! It was a big surprise to find such good service and good food were we least expected. Smart employees, attention to details, very clean and attractive menu. I am glad that we had that trip to Kaliakra because it was a very nice experience. And for Castello di Kaliakra just one word: Congratulations!

We just went there to admire the nature, having no idea about the history of that place. We have discovered a natural stronghold, inhabited for 2500 years, a great panorama, a museum and a nice restaurant. The water was so clear that, from 70 m high, we could see the fishes close to the shore. It would have been perfect if there was a boat trip, so we could admire the cliffs from the sea level.

Cape Kaliakra is the eastern point of Bulgaria. It's high narrow rocky cliff(reaching 70 m ) with great views to the blue water. Remrants of a medieval town is located there. In addition: there is a restaurant and several pavilions where people sell drinks.

My first time in Bulgaria and I was absolutely stunned, reminded me of the Croatian coastline. Very beautiful scenery, easy to access. If you're here don't miss the restaurant Castello Kaliakra. We had a very good time, our waiter was absolutely brilliant, the food was excellent (we ate fish). You have to pay 3 leva entry fee but this is a small price to pay for the things you will see and experience. 5 stars from me.

Kaliakra is an ancient settlement situated on top of steep cliffs on the northern shores of the Bulgarian Black Sea. It offers very beatiful scenary with the many layers of different coloured red rock that constitute the cliffs before they reach the roaring sea and the rocks below. There are many ruins left from the ancient settlement and on the outer part there's a small chapel and two arches with a magnificent view.It is really a site worth visiting and even though there are booths with the usual souvenirs it is not ruining the experience. There's a nice restaurant where you can enjoy the view and enjoy food or a drink in the shade. There's a small fee when you drive into the parking lot (3 leva pr. adult)

A pleasant afternoon well worth a visit. The views are outstanding and the history is interesting to.Well sign posted and easy to get to. The facilities there are good and well looked after. DO NOT MISS.

Cape Kaliakra should be a place that no one should miss. It is always likely to be breezy there so even if it is a warm day you may want a light jacket and don't even think about wearing a hat unless it is glued on! There are the ruins of a number of very historic buildings here and they are surrounded by a multitude of wonderful wild flowers. These in turn attract a diverse array of beautifully coloured butterflies and other insects that attract bird life and beautifully coloured small lizards. Try to avoid the crowds and sit still for a while and you will see nature in abundance. The views are spectacular and it is just makes you want to sit and take in the view and be at peace with the world for a while.

One of the most beautiful places in Bulgarian Black Sea coast. There is a restaurant and a car parking near the cape.
