A city to remember, old streets, buildings, very well preserved. Shops, restaurats, pubs, museums-everything in a concentrated location, easy to cover.Recommandable to everybody, worth a visit.

The old town area is well laid out for convenient shopping with a main wide walking boulevard and several smaller walking streets. The town probably was favored for cross-border shopping, but the assortment of souvenirs and momentos is quite limited, and prices are comparatively high. We felt one lavender shop was unusual, but it was an exception. We visited with a tour group, and we found that most of the participants had returned early to the coach because they had not found many shops of interest. We particularly enjoyed the environment around the Carmelite church that lay at the river entrance to the older town. It's is a yellow Baroque church with a facade in an Italian style that might appear anywhere in Western Europe or even in Macau, but it is fixed in Hungary by its ex-Byzantine two-barred patriarchal cross which appears in the coat of arms of both Hungary and Slovakia.

Györ, or Raab as it is called in German, is a great town, with a compact and impressive city centre. Several old streets lead to quite a few beautiful squares. You can enjoy a good shopping time here. Why not buy some phantastic Hungarian wines in one of the shops, like for example the Tokay wine ? Györ can be easily reached by train and car from Vieanna and Budapest. It makes a great stop on your route to the East and the Balkan.

The baroque center of Györ with its main square (Szèchenyi tèr) and all the small street around is great place to visit in every season. We have lot of festivals in the center, nowadays the Xmas one with lot of small point of sales of hand made gifts, hot wine, street food, etc and Xmas decoration everywhere. In the evening you can watch the laser show on the main square and your kids can try the different attractions or listen some concerts. In summertime there are numerous terraces open, where you can drink a good 'fröccs' (rosè or white wine with soda). It is a very nice place to visit.

Of course Gyor does not compare with Pecs, but it's still has a pretty town center, fountains, restaurants bars and cafes, in an understated, non hurried environment. It was a pleasant stopover on the direct line to Saltzburg where I was heading.

An absolutely charming town with a central square, interesting architecture, monasteries, churches, wonderful street walks, friendly shop owners...Being there gives an idea of life in a smaller town than Budapest...I recommend an overnight stay rather than just a quick stop...Research the history of the town during World War II...

Anytime we go to Gyor, the centre is the place to go - restaurants, peaceful places, monuments, buildings...

Hungary is a poorer country than many in Europe, but this town square would do any European city proud

We enjoyed our stay here immensely. We have family in the area, and always look forward to this part of our European trips - where we get to visit Györ and its lovely baroque town centre. The cafés, shops, and people-watching are all one wants in an authentic small city weekend.

This was a pitstop to provide our tour bus driver his required break time. It was a nice place for a brief introduction to Hungary. There is a nice visitor center and local shops to explore. I would not go out of my way to visit this town, but glad this was our stop vs. a rest stop along the highway.

Győr is lovated at the NW part of Hungary, close to the Austrian and the Slovakien border. This is a lovely baroque city, with many baroque buildings in the downtown. You have to visit the churches, the cathedral, and the Bischop's Castle. There are some good museums, too.

It may be sometimes overlooked by visitors coming to Hungary, because of the magic of Budapest, but Gyor is located between Vienna and Budapest and it is worth coming a visit, especially for its excellent restaurants, historic sites and picturesque surrounds.

If you are looking for a day out of vienna, try the EU regio ticket from OBB. For 21 euros round trip, you can take the regional trains to Gyor. from the train station, you walk straight out of the front entrance crossing a major road ( or just follow where most people are walking) and you will find yourself in the pedestrian zone heading to the old town area of Gyor. It is not as touristy as the old town area of Bratislava and therefore has its own charm. There are many restaurants, some nice shops and many old buildings and streets that have recently been redone and are beautiful. You will also find the old cathedral area and the large square area with cafes and restaurants all around it. I believe it is called Szechenyi Square.

Gepflegte Altstadt. Die Häuser werden fast alle schön restauriert und von außen gestrichen. Die Fußgängerzone hat viele kleine Geschäfte.

Starté město, dost kostelů a památek - ovšem ne všechny / přes otvírací hodiny / přístupné. Velké infocentrum, dostatek kaváren, obchůdků. Krása starobylého města se "tluče" s komunistickou výstavbou / divadlo |/ a panelákovou zástavbou
