It's just an amazing village, like jumping back in time of some hundred years. I had the feeling it is not so touristic as Pienza (there were only few people, very quite and nice). But it's as beautiful as Pienza, and with an excellent restaurant (Osteria La Porta). Simply lovely.
My husband and I stayed with a group of friends in a villa around a mile from this town. The area is absolutely beautiful and the town is perched over the area and has wonderful views. Walking the town, you will see a few shops, a church and a welcome center that has some local produce and wine. Walking all of the way up the hill, there is an outdoor art gallery that I really enjoyed walking through. There are the remains of a fort-type building at the top of the hill, also, but these were not open to the public. The main draw for me was the food. We ate dinner 3 times at La Taverna di Moranda - yes, it was that good! If you make the trip to Monticchiello, we strongly recommend you visit this restaurant.
Very nice to stroll around in this charming place. The houses , the flowers, everything is so beautiful and so peacefull. We were there very early in the morning, so it seamed the whole city was there just for us. Very nice!
This is a very nice little town but packed with really good food. It's a good place to explore and enjoy the scenic view.
just a perfect old town on a hill. Nice drive up. there is even a pull over spot for photos just before the town. Found reasonable close parking for a fee
and dont miss to take a picture of the zypressi serpentines you find this in every calendar from Tuscany
We were on a cycling trip and visiting the charming walled medieval village when the the heaven's opened up as they say. The residents were very nice giving us predictions when we would be safely able to ride again. We took the opportunity to park our bikes and explore, it was very quiet as we were the only people out and about but we were already wet and it was not a cold rain. Lovely town and people worth a visit
Charming little town. Great local restaurants! The cobble stone walkways, arches, entrances -- you just feel the history walking into the city.
After having dined at Osteria La Porta we went for a walk in the little town of Monticchiello. It was late in the evening and completely dark. The dark town with its dark walls, with only a few well-lit windows made a fantastic impression. We made another visit early in the morning and walked around in this very special town. It was quiet with only one, closed tourist shop and dito restaurant. But what an atmosphere! Monticchiello outnumbered the other small towns in the neighbourhood, even Pienza!
Wonderful little hilltop town, with great restaurants. Lovely to spend an afternoon or evening. It's a place to get away from it all as it's very quiet town. But has a great bar and restaurant.
Not too much to see here. A typical small hill town, but still interesting. But the main reason we came was to eat lunch and La Porta was excellent.
Beautiful little town with a great restaurant - La Porta. Only took an hour to see the whole town, but it was worth it. In the most picturesque part of all Tuscany, in our opinion.
This is the quaintest, most sedate and peaceful hill top village on earth. Perched up on high is a collection of iggldy piggly terracotta tiled houses all immaculately kept with great pride from the owners.wonderful flower arrangements adorn the houses, the views are breathtaking. If you want a place to chill and see your last days out this will do fine. There are restaurants but no sign of a shop at all !! Worth a visit and marvel. If nothing else get to see Monticchiello once in your life.
There's not much to do, but it's a pretty little walled village with two tall towers. The views are great, but that's true of several of the small villages. We did eat at La Porta restaurant twice, the food and service there was great!!! it was only 1 Km from Terre di Nano, on the same road, know as the "Strada Blanca".
Monticchiello is a beautiful small walled village on a hill-top between Montipulciano and Pienza. We were told the population consisted of about 90 persons. There are several restaurants and overnight possibilities as well as an art gallery and a nice dress shop. The views both inside and outside the walls are superb. It is definitely worth a visit.
