Visited this Museum in November 2014 and was delighted to find it open.It is a large old castle complex, in very good condition, on the banks of the river with three separate buildings dedicated to the museum; some of the other buildings are offices. The staff are very helpful and there is a small shop at the entrance desk. The first building has one upper floor and easily accessible, the next building is a series of dioramas from the wars, all at ground level. On a personal level. I was particularly interested in the representation of the surgeon/doctors display in one of the spaces. The third tall building has been very well renovated internally and is devoted mainly to the Enniskellen Fusiliers. There is lots more on view here also. There is a car park outside the Museum and there is also a childrens' trail available. I seem to remember the cost was only £3 but you can check this online.

An absolute must if you are interested in military history but really interesting if you're not! There is also an excellent exhibition of an archeological excavation of a 'Crannog' ( a manmade floating family dwelling or roundhouse in lough Erne dating from the very early centuries) which gives a fascinating insight into the reason for building such complicated dwellings.

The castle is undergoing renovations at the moment. But when I visited it there was a lot to see in side and out side. Lots of war items and very informative . Children and adults alike will find it interesting. Beautiful surrounds. River water ways. Also the forum near by is very nice on a dry day. The town of Enniskillen is also very nice, with plenty of shops and restaurants and pubs, the hotels are also really nice. I would recommend the Westville. Very close to town.

great history of the military importance of the region . surprised there wasn't a little more reference to the Enniskillen remembrance bomb in 1987 and those who lost their lives and the subsequent impact on the peace process

We visited Enniskillen Castle a few days ago and it was both very enjoyable and informative. The lady at reception was very good in her introduction to the castle and there was a good mix of things to see and read. Whilst it is impossible to take in all of the information available (at least for me anyway), you come away feeling that you have learnt something. Definately worth a visit, particularly if you enjoy military history.

Plenty to see in these fine buildings from the stone age right up to our own times. We encountered two very knowledgeable and enthusiastic members of staff here who enriched the diverse history through stories and anecdotes.

Castle was closed when we visited but we enjoyed looking at the grounds on the water. Lots of pubs and restaurants close by.

Enniskillen Castle has a fascinating history - from strategic stronghold to military garrison - and every bit is shared throughout the may museums on site. The County Fermanagh Heritage Centre begins in the Monolithic age and leads the visitor through to modern times, while the castle Keep and stables hold 19th & 20th century military history, as well as the history of the castle's builders, the Maguires. The museums themselves are well set up to self-tour, with plenty of information at each display. The museum keeps it fun for kids with a History Detective pamphlet - and a prize for completion.

There were lots of interesting pieces in this museum however displays jumped around from era to era, war to war and I found myself being confused as I walked round. There was no clear route to walk around. It had a delightful courtyard however and we saw a couple of Pipebands there practising which was great.

Enniskillen Castle has seen continuous use since the 1500's - when it was built by the McGuires - all the way through the 20th Century, when it served as the headquarters of several Irish Regiments. Each era has its own museum, and they are all well done. Just a stone's throw away from Enniskillen craft malls, the Castle is a great way to start an afternoon in this great city.

This castle is a nice compact group of buildings. It stands in a very scenic position at he edge of the river at the edge of Enniskillen. The displays cover some aspects of the history of life in the area but the main attraction is the castle keep. This houses hundreds of years of military history of the regiments in the area. there are many exhibits and all are well explained. The local regiments fought all over the world and gives an insight into world history over the last 200 years approx.A very interesting place to visit.
