old congress pioneer cemetary

The Old Congress Pioneer Cemetary is a true leftover from the old days of the Wild West, as witnessed by the many graves with very young children, living in a rough area when life was a lot tougher than now. The cemetary is small, and not all the graves have markers, but some of them tell interesting facts; some stione markers are either recently cleaned and polished, or have been replaced. Itiscertainly worth a visit.The map here on TA shows the site as being right on 71 as you cross the railroad tracks. This is false. If you come from 89, turn onto 71 and cross the railrioad tracks, and then take the first proper road, Ghost Town Rd, on the right - if you're coming up from 60 on 71, it's the last road on your left before you ross the RR tracks. Ghost Town Rd leads through a fairly new development. Keep right at a Y fork. The oavement ends here, but ifyou are a bit careful where you cross the tiny washes, this is negotiable with a sedan. Look for an old marker that says Cemetary and make the right angle turn to the right onto a smaller dirt road and follow it to the foot of the hill where the rocks start; that's where the cemetary is.
