I rode the Mohican Valley Trail in June 2012, as part of my 300+-mile trip across Ohio from SW to NE. The trail web site states that it is a side-by-side trail, with bicycles on one side and horses and buggies on the other. However, with vegetation encroaching, the trial is typically only about 6 feet wide. The trail is dirt, which turns to deep mud after a rain. Horse hooves and buggy wheel ruts have really torn up the trail, especially on the western end. When I rode this trail (on a hybrid bicycle with 700 x 35 C tires) my tires would often dive into a buggy wheel rut. The eastern end, near the Holmes County line, was mud and puddles from one side to the other in the area where the trail paralleled US 62. This problem is being resolved with the new tunnel under US 62 to connect the trail with the Holmes County Trail; the tunnel is set to open in early July 2013. What makes this trail worthwhile is the Bridge of Dreams. This is a covered bridge built on the old railroad bridge over the Mohican River. It is the second-longest covered bridge in Ohio.
