We asked 3 different people about this and they really didn't even point us to where we were suppose to be. Our directions were, oh you will see it. I believe another time would of been a better experience.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE going to Little Sahara! Everyone is very friendly! If you are looking for a fun filled adventure and love to ride 4wheelers....PLEASE PLEASE make your way to Waynoka, Ok and visit Little Sahara State Park! You will want to go again and again!!!
We drove up to Waynoka and rented UTV to ride the dunes. We rented during the week in July and rode that morning. We were virtually the only people on the dunes that morning. We had a great time. The guys at Stewarts explained the polaris side by side to us and were very helpful. If you can find a hotel away from Waynoka, do it. Not much in the town and the 2 hotels are not very nice.
This is one of my families favorite places. My husband has been going since he was little. We go at least twice a month with our RZR. This is the place my daughter learned to ride a 4 wheeler. Snakehunt and Sandfest weekends are always busy, but worth fighting some crowds. There is now better air than going out on a night ride seeing nothing but the stars and moon above!
My husband bought a razr and took me here for my first time ever. I'm so addicted now. It's amazing! The dunes are incredible. At night the sky looks so awesome. It's like something I've never seen before. I highly recommend this place. The only downer is, I wish they would do something with the restrooms. They're in dire need of attention.
The sand was great!! As always, it is more crowded than some spots, but ride smart and you will be okay.
We love bringing our boys to Little Sahara to ride! The camping areas are great for a camping trip or just a day trip! We ride into town and eat at one of the many dining establishments! My boys love the times when we ride the dunes at night!
We travel the country riding trails on our ATVs. This was our first trip to ride sand dunes. It was quite impressive and unlike any other riding we've done. We were quite unprepared for the sheer size of the sand dunes and also the shapes. There's a live rattlesnake in the park office in a glass cage. There's plenty of activity to enjoy just watching other riders doing daredeveil stunts and racing across the dunes.
Loved the dunes at little Sahara in Oklahoma. Easy to get to, easy camping. Wish there were more bathrooms/showers.The dunes were unbelievable, a different ride every morning as the sands shift at night. I was a novice, so after riding a few days with the pros, I was able to navigate the park myself. If you hit the parameter fence just follow it in to the camping...eventually.People are friendly, you can ride to town on your bikes. Food and gas is right around the corner.
Our family took the sand rail to Oklahama for some sand fun , it was very hot but tons of fun . Great place to ride motorcycles , bungies, side by sides, sandrails etc, paddle tires are a must.Word to the wise it is a very very small town with only one or two places to eat and if their is a big event at the park it is very hard to find a place to stay ( only one tiny hotel) my advice would be to plan your trip in advance so you can rent a house it is just about your only option , the house are not great but for guys on a weekend adventures this is usually not a big deal . On our way back home we stopped in Oklahoma city and it was amazing water parks ,amazing downtown ,water taxis ,just a tons of sights highly suggest stopping in !
If you've not been to little Sahara make plans to go, Avoid real hot weather, and if you don't like crowds, or snakes, avoid the rattle snake roundup. Do call Stewarts in advance and reserve a ride if you don't have your own. I recommend a Razor side by side however if you want to ride on your own there are plenty of options. Think light and fast as staying on top of the sand is a plus as getting bogged down looked annoying! Then just head out to the dunes and let go for a bit. I was surprised at the size of the dunes as I was thinking 10 feet maybe, it's more like 50 and the place is huge. We had a blast and while it wasn't cheap and is a long ways from just about anywhere it was well worth the trip.
This is a great place to go for some family fun. We've been so many times and have a blast every time. We bring dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides. Awesome!
We stayed at the park again in Oct. 2012 , during the week it was interesting to have the entire dune area to ourselves and not see a soul. The park has made many changes and has new improved sites in the south campground. The park manager is a very nice ranger and cares for the park as well as the campers and riders riding atvs, buggies in the park.
We rented a Jeep just so we could go to the Little Sahara. Once we got there, we went to the shop close by to put the whip - the staff was extremely helpful in installing the whip. It was a great adventure not to be missed. The only thing is that Jeep cannot go to little paths ATVs can go to, so maybe next time we'll rent an ATV.
We have been here many times and love this park. The dunes are fun to ride. At the end of the day, you have access to showers, but bring a roll quarters as they cost 25 cents. They also have restrooms and no porto-potties. I think they overcharge and the rate seems to always change. They charge per driver and per tent, but that could change. We learned that liquor is not allowed and we got caught because we left the bottles on the table. If you want to being liquor, be sure to keep it out of sight or pre-make your drinks. The troopers were cool with us though because we didn't argue with them. Be cool with them and they will be cool back.
