I have gone here on two separate occasions and have had a great day both times. Sam Maloof was an extraordinary wood carver with pieces in The Smithsonian and The White House. You can take a tour of his house and sit in his chair (awesome I might add) and walk in the gardens. There is always something going on where you could really spend most of the day just enjoying everything around you. The first time I went, we packed a nice lunch with a good bottle of wine, sat in the gazebo and had a very nice lunch in a very nice area. This is a must see attraction which is such a pleasant surprise. There is a fee for the tour of the house but the garden is free. Worth looking up.

This wonderfully filled museum is amazing! He is very inspiring and gifted artist. His wife gave him amazing support and they were an awesome team together. My teenage son and I came for a visit here. To my surprise we were both amused by this artistry that Mr. Maloof provided our world with. I recommend this place for all!! Simply amazing. He touched many lives and hearts;)

Such a wonderful place to visit. Tucked away in Alta Loma, Ca. is a wonderful museum which was the original home of renowned furniture maker; Mr.Sam Maloof. The tour is a must. There is a video which gives you a very good background on Mr. Maloof and his works. The guide that we had was very knowledgeable. Many wonderful pieces of his furniture are on display throughout the house esp., his signature work: the Rocking Chair. After taking the tour; please see the gardens surrounding the property.Though out the gardens you will find many s creative metal works from various artists.

Sam Maloof was a singular artist with a passion and vision that few have achieved woodworking. And as a result, the most beautiful and magnificent handmade furniture came into form. His legacy continues with "the boys", the three young men who are long since adults whom he trained and who carry on his vision and perfection of furniture crafting.Sam built his own house plank by plank with his own hands, fashioned every amazing door handle and lock (you've never seen anything like it), made the stained glass windows, made all the furniture, and cabinetry, which is beyond beautiful. He and his wife, also an artist, were friends with many other famous artists and as a result his house is full of amazing "gifts" from these people. The 'energy resonance' of his work is palpable in the house and everywhere. His ingenuity, attention to detail, love of his work, and passion of his heart are expressed through the most beautiful forms in furniture and cabinetry that you'll ever see. To feel the wood (and don't forget to feel the underside of the chairs and tables! they have been worked and finished with as much care and detail as .When you sit in his famous rocking chair (around $12,000 to buy one today), that looks like it would be to hard to sit in for long, you will never want to get up out of it. It wraps itself around your contours, no matter how tall or short, thin or wide you are, and just causes your whole body to relax. This is the only piece of his furniture that you will be allowed to sit in, and it's the absolute best. I never, ever would have thought anything made of hard wood could be so comfortable and such a joy to experience!I have been on this tour twice, and will be back again!NOTE: There are priceless items sitting out everywhere. THIS IS NOT A TOUR FOR CHILDREN. GET A BABYSITTER. YOU CANNOT BRING STROLLERS OR WHEELCHAIRS ON THIS HOUSE TOUR. You will also be climbing several sets of stairs. The garden walkways are not paved. The tour starts with a lovely video. Enjoy your day!Public Tours conducted year round:Thursdays & Saturdays* at1, 2 and 3 PM Gate opens at noon and closes at 4 PM*Except June 2 and November 24Space is limited. This small museum was the home of one of the best artist in the US. Great selection of Sam Maloof's exceptional wood furnitures, expecially his famous signature rocking chairs. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden which is a showcase of drought-resistant plants. Great in the spring when flowers bloon in abundance.

This is a very isolated site which makes it more interesting, but not easy to navigate. The xeriscape garden is interesting, but the slope of the property makes it difficult for anyone who has a problem walking to get around. The parking is limited, but you can park on the street. I would strongly recommend you check its' website to see when there are special events there to make it more worthwhile. The gift shop is small and well maintained. If you time it well you can even see some of Maloof's staff working on his famous designs. The place is worth a visit if you are into his wood working artistry or into gardening. It takes about a hour, but bring those walking shoes and don't rush, there are nice vistas everywhere.

What a place. Hidden away in a small neighborhood, is the home of Sam Maloof. The furniture he made is legendary, but to visit his home and see how he impacted the world of art in America, is sensational. I'd definitely go again.
