It was on a hill and the drive thru is a little rough. But it is worth seeing. There is so much history. You don't very often get to see such beautiful and elaborate tombstones any more.

I was impressed with the age and the generational family plots and tombs,Unfortunately, time and weather has taken a toll on many of the stones. Still, it is a historical record of many of the pioneer families of the area. Just 2-3 blocks from downtown, it is a worthwhile stop.

Interest taste of jackson's history in the two-three cemeteries that run together. I enjoy walking the area and reading epitaphs. Worth visiting. Not a lot of trees, so bring a hat or go during the spring or fall.

The Jackson Pioneer Cemetery was very interesting in that there was a lot of history that went back to the early gold mining days of the early 1920's. No grass or nice green lawns, but very interesting.

Walking through this cemetery and reading the headstones is a true experience. There is a history lesson here on immigration to this area due to the Gold Rush. You come away with a better appreciation of what the immigrants went through as they came here seeking a better life and for many seeking their fortune.

Just a few minutes from home, the Jackson Pioneer Cemetery dates to the beginnings of Jackson in the mid 1800s. Look around and see the pioneers of Jackson who have streets named after them. Within the grounds is the pioneer Jewish cemetery for the once thriving community who also erected one of the first Synagogs west of the Mississippi. It the headstones could just talk...

interesting headstones. If you can do head stone rubs with charcoal on paper, it's kinda fun.

The Jackson Pioneer Cemetery is a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in old cemeteries. It is large, but most of the older graves are clustered in one general area, so it’s easy to walk around and look at them. The cemetery is well kept up and tidy.It’s located not far from old downtown Jackson, and whilst there are trees, it’s not “spooky” at all – in fact, it was quite pleasant in the February sunshine. Church Street borders the cemetery, and there is a row of houses along one side of the street. Parking is somewhat limited, and the cemetery is up a slight hill.The cemetery was opened in 1854 and the oldest grave we found was from 1855. There are several very old graves that appear to be built “above ground” and we had not seen that before. We wondered why – perhaps the ground was frozen when the folks died? We had an enjoyable time wandering through the cemetery and I would recommend it for visitors to Jackson.
