My husband & I were driving around one afternoon hoping to have Wine tasting, but we were also hungry. So we had to find a place for wine tasting that would also serve food, and I found the perfect place. You might think twice about entering this place cuz it's located in a warehouse district. But the ambience is perfect, it's really cozy.We had Wine Flights with our food. We had Fried Brussel Sprouts with Blue Cheese & Toasted Walnuts/Awesome, Bahn Mi Deviled Eggs, Duck Confit & BBQ Glazed Pork Ribs. We liked the idea that they served different kinds of food, not the same usual appetizers you find at other restaurants. So we will definitely go back.
It looks like any light industrial office park office but…..This wonderful, wonderful place has been our little hideaway location for great food and wine.Share plate is the concept and the wines are exquisite! Owners Cindy and David Lawson are convivial and hospitable hosts as well as their friendly and professional staff! We've been there 7 times thus far (and counting)! I don't know what the others have as issue but give it a whirl and you won't be disappointed!
Previously we had been this winery on a LivingSocial deal. The food was good but tiny portions and the wine pours were miniscule, which we chalked up to the special pricing deal. We had a pretty good time, and ended up joining the wine club. Several months later, we went to Covington for a Valentine's dinner which was very expensive (over $250/couple) but the menu sounded really good. We should have known we were in for trouble when they did not have our names on the list even though we are members and signed up by email on the first day (in reply to an email they sent us). At least they didn't turn us away. When they seated us, they made a point of telling us that the wine was already poured (a total of 4) and that we might want to save it for the course it was paired with. I want to be clear that these were AT MOST 1 ounce pours, not the 3 or 5 ounce pours Cindy claims in response to other reviews.(I measured a 3 ounce pour to show my husband when we got home to prove it.) They also did not provide a copy of the menu and the wine pairings so we would know what we'd be eating and drinking. We had to look it up on their website on our phones. The dinner was supposed to start at 7 but a large party had not showed up yet so they made the rest of us wait for almost 20 minutes. Of course when they started serving, they served the late party first while the rest of sat around starving. When they finally served the first course which was a crostini with goat cheese (messy), about half the tables in the room realized that we had no napkins. We had to chase down one of the dim-witted servers to get some, and inexplicably, she brought out two napkins at a time. In between courses the servers completely disappeared, and I had to get up to refill our own water glasses multiple times (which the servers never attempted to fill). I will say that the food was sublime - crab ravioli, duck confit salad, mushroom bisque with homemade focaccia, beef tenderloin with prawns. Unfortunately the only food that was hot was the soup. All of the other food which should have been hot was room temperature. While we were on the soup course, one of the servers brought out a commercial dishwasher rack full of silverware and proceeded to check and sort it to put away for at least 10 minutes. So we had to listen to this clattering noise while we ate. We ran out of wine and had to pay an additional $25 for two small pours to eat with our tenderloin. Dinner was finally done around 10 due to the slowness of the service. When we were ready to leave, we picked up our 4th quarter shipment of wine, and when we got it home realized they'd given 2 of the same thing. We decided after all of this that we wanted to quit the wine club by were told that there is a $50 cancellation fee if you cancel under one year, and you have to pay back all of the discounts you receive. I can't describe how disappointed we are with the service here. I would not recommend this place at all.
I hosted a business dinner here and it wasnt what I expected at all. I knew it was a tasting room but in the back of a bunch of offices and warehouses is subpar when hosting clients. We arrived for a private dinner on an evening with HORRIBLE traffic. We were waiting for our entire party to arrive but the owner kept pushing me to start the tour (I am guessing so he could go home). I asked him to wait twice and after that he essentially just stuck to my side until I finally agreed to the tour. The tour was a whole different issue, I am paying for a first class experience not to hear about where the wine maker went to high school or how he met his wife. When we sat for dinner, I was disappointed in the food amount. We paid a premium and there wasnt even enough food for the entire group. I expected a lot and there was only enough for one person, if anyone was particularly hungry they didnt get enough food. Overall I was just disappointed.
We did a group dinner and were very disappointed. Even though we paid for more people than attended, there was not enough food. They skimp on wine, they skimp on appitizers, entree and dessert.
In way of greeting it was mentioned the initial price did not include tax and gratuities, I've been to many wine dinners at other venues and this is the first time tax was not included in the initial purchase price. The flight of wines quantity served was more of a tasting than a pairing amount and there were no refills, again a first in my experience. The wines offered were okay but in the area there are other wineries with great wines at the same price points. Of the meal courses the soup was the best one with the entree of pork loin overcooked and dry. My bride couldn't finish her's it was that unremarkable. Rather than it being a Supper Club I felt is was more of a suckers club event. The staff was okay but with the lack of quality of the food and wine we won't return. Maybe it was because they were serving 36 of us and their normal maximum is 24 but if that is the case they should have planned accordingly.
For locals and for visitors, Covington Cellars in Woodinville is a must (not for minors).Covington Cellars is one of approximately 100 Washington Wineries that have sprung up in the area north of Seattle. They are somewhat hidden away in small industrial buildings. However, inside the buildings are all the necessary items needed tio make wine and there are rows upon rows of casks, aging the wine. Grapes are grown in the prime wine growing areas of the state and trucked in for processing into fine Washington wines....all steps, including crushing the grapes processing, fermenting and aging. The main feature with Covington is not just the tour, but the packages which include a cooking demo, samples and a fine gourmet dinner with appropriate wine pairings. Wine abounds as samples of their various wines are given. The entire experience was about 3 hours long. Reservations are required. Discount vouchers are routinely available over the internet.Don't miss this.
