A small state park, but neat. The boardwalk through the swamp in nice. Watch as gators swim by. Even more fun, and kinda scary is renting a canoe and float by live, wild gators! You can follow the canoe trail through the swamp-what a neat time. I have heard that snakes fall from trees into canoes. Luckily, not mine. Another foot trail leads you around were a mill once stood. The visitors center is nice and educational. Restrooms and picnic tables are located on the property. Free to walk the trails. A few dollars to rent a canoe.

I took the kids (8,12,15) out for a afternoon of picnicking and walking. It was a great way to get them unplugged for a few hours. The shelter house and picnic tables are nice. Bathrooms are available but paper towels were not; they were not really dirty but could stand a good cleaning. The boardwalk is a nice short walk. We saw a snake sunning itself on the boards and 3 alligators not far off the walk.the nature trail is well maintained. The highlight was discovering a bee tree and watching the bees come and go through a large crack in the trunk. The only disappointment was that the nature was closed. There was no indication of hours (I would think Saturday afternoon of a 3 day weekend would be a good time to have visitors). I checked the State's website when we got back and there was no mention that the Nature Center would be closed. I think the Natural Resources is missing a good chance of increasing awareness to this little gem of a park by not having the Center open or at least posting hours when it will be open. With this only being about 30 minutes way, I can see more trips back in the future.

We wanted a quick diversion during our car trip down to the beach, and chose this park. We arrived at 9:30 AM on a Monday in late June, and had the park to ourselves for the entire hour we were there. We saw a small snake as we approached the boardwalk trail. On the boardwalk, we saw several small alligators (15" or so), picked & ate blueberries, and watched numerous, very active Prothonotary Warblers. We walked the nature trail next, and saw two skinks. There was a lot of bird activity throughout the park. Bring your bug spray, though! The yellow flies and mosquitos were out in force.

This little hike through the swamps is a perfect stop to take a break while traveling. It is a very easy hike along a platform walkway and you will see all kinds of wildlife. We thoroughly enjoyed our stop here and will stop again when in the area. It is very secluded and well of the beaten path, and has nice bathroom facilities.

Rustic and perfect in it's simplicity. It offers so much for so little. What a great way to spend a few hours or more. You owe it to yourself to see this genuine treasure.

I grew up in the area but moved away as an adult only returning a couple times a year. However it was during one of these recent visits that I decided to exit 95 and go check it out. I think it was great call as it was quiet and very scenic. There was the typical boardwalk that extended through a stretch of swampy-woodland that brought me up close with the local wildlife. But it was very relaxing and I would definitely recommend others looking for a safe place to see some of the old south!
