What a beautiful place! With such gorgeous art! This is one stop that has to be made if you are in the area. Terry Redlin gave so much beauty in his paintings and continues to do so with this wonderful way to display all of his works. There is no admission fee and there is a very nice gift shop.
What a wonderful tribute to one of America's favorite artists! A stunning collection of 150 + original paintings in addition to many more prints. Amazing to be able to tour the gallery without a charge - not even a box asking for donations. Each painting is accompanied by wonderful stories and descriptions written by Terry Redlin himself. The emotions I had were overwhelming . Thank you for taking me back in time and to places where life was simple and good.
My husband and I have been Terry Redlin fans since we married 4 years ago. Although I admit to being a fan of his later works (pictures with only animals are not my thing). The setting of the gallery in Watertown is beautiful. The staff is wonderfully helpful and polite. It is free to see the display and hear the story of his works. Hard to believe it is free - they could charge and I don't think anyone would mind.My husband and I have purchased a few Redlin prints from dealers in our hometown - Omaha. We were shocked to see the reasonable prices at the gallery. They are actually cheaper than the ones in Omaha! There are some great finds at the gallery and if nothing else, a great place to spend an hour.
My wife & I were here last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Art Center. the setting is quite grand on the exterior and the interior is discreet. It took us more than 2 hours to go through the three floors of exhibition space but could have spent more. Free admission was nice but I would have paid.
The Terry Redlin Museum is conveniently located at exit 177 on I-29 in Watertown. The building is beautiful with lovely landscaped grounds.Admission is free. Everyone was very welcoming. There are three levels of displays of Redlin's works in different time periods. I particularly enjoyed seeing some of his work from his childhood. They have a very nice gift shop to complete your visit. If you are in the area, be sure to stop in.
I have returned to the Museum each time I pass Watertown, SD on long trips south. This time I was with a bus tour that included: 2 videos about Mr Redlin and his works; a delicious prepacked lunch made by a local restaurant and placed in a square tin with a Redlin picture on the top; time to see many of the paintings; and time in the extensive gift shop. It is a "must see" if in the area.
It was very peaceful place to be and see the life of the artist Terry Redlin. He is their hometown celeb and the Redlin Family has shared his works of art and family story in a wonferful setting in small town South Dakota>
The artwork that is on display at the Terry Redlin Art Center is truly amazing. The artists attention to detail and the beauty in his work is breathtaking. The center also has event in their theatre and a gift shop. During the summer they host a festival on the lawn which is well worth attending and a great afternoon and evening of fun, music, food and concludes with a fireworks show.
