Great site with great employees and volunteers who are dedicated to historical accuracy! My wife and kids love going to the events.

Our family visited Fort Dobbs when a Living History Special Event was taking place. What a great experience! Our 9 year old son took it all in and really enjoyed it. Our 7 year old daughter had fun, but had seen enough after about 30 minutes. The Living History Special Event included volunteers dressed up in 18th century clothing, had soldiers that fired muskets, and best of all were very friendly and knowledgable taking time to speak to everyone. The visitor's center, although small, had helpful folks and took the time to explain many historical artifacts to my son. There are plans to rebuild the fort to scale and they have a model to show the fort when complete. Overall, my wife, children and father in law spent about 45-60 minutes and all agreed it was a really neat place and worth the visit.

Not sure about the date I was there but they carry a good line of work boots etc. They carry the muck boots and have a good price for them.

If you're already in the area, then this location is probably worth a quick visit. I wouldn't recommend travelling any distance to get there, as there is not a great deal to see. The short nature trail at the rear of the site is fine for a short stroll. Maybe combine it with a visit to other local attractions.

Wonderful historic site. Buildings and grounds from the French Indian War. Great period reenactor gave an interesting tour that was the right length. He even fired his musket! Not far off the interstate, well marked directional signs, easy to find.

the first time we went to fort dobbs there was just a few things. over the past few years they have put in different things and are trying to restore and construct the fort as is was when it was built. some place historic to take the kids to on a sunny afternoon for an hour or two.

Stopped by for a few minutes last week. Not much to see outside of the few building present. The rail fence alongside of the road is the most impressive structure at the fort.

They do not have major events every weekend but when they do, they are great & very interesting. To all those who have complained that there is no fort, two things: they are raising money to rebuild the fort and how about you making a donation to make it happen?? I get so sick of people who go to sites & make complaints. They are the first ones to never drop a dime in the donation box. Ft Dobbs has excellent interpreters who are very historically accurate in their presentations. They do an awesome job in spite of the fact that the fort has not been rebuilt yet. But it will happen, as their support group is working hard to raise money. So, naysayers, send in your donation to make it happen!!

Was a fun few minutes. Not much to see, though the guides are pretty good. I expected something more but alas, didn't find it. I may be a bit spoiled but was surprised to find that there is no fort here - it was, but torn down years ago.

On our trip to Ashville we stopped at Fort Dobbs to stretch our legs. I wasn't expecting much but it turned out to be pretty cool. The historical interpreter was very informative and there was a cool museum with a gift shop. The kids had a great time too! There was also a hiking trail. We are definitely coming back for the next event.

Went to an event and enjoyed myself. The actors were informative and were very helpful. Will come back for the next event

Fort Dobbs is a fascinating site that deserves a lot more attention than it currently gets. It's well interpreted given the state of reconstruction and limited staff. They do a LOT with a little to educated those who find the place on the significance of it. It deserves a greater share of the available resources than what it gets.

I had the good fortune to visit Fort Dobbs during one of their reenactment weekends, and had a great time! I learned a great deal about North Carolina's history during the French & Indian War, and enjoyed some excellent demonstrations of 18th century cooking and musket firing demos. Some other reviewers mention that this site would be better with the actual fort, but its the staff and volunteers that really make this place memorable. This site has LOTS of potential and I am excited to see how Fort Dobbs progresses in the near future!

Fort Dobbs has an amazing and widely unknown story to share. As the only French and Indian War (1754-1763) historic site today in NC it not only interprets the global war known as the Seven Years War in Europe and NC's role in it, Dobbs also highlights the very personal story if 18th century settlement history. This story connects the struggles, sacrifices, hopes and dreams of the very people that made America. Today Fort Dobbs is primarily an archeological site with some visitor amenities. With that said, a guest would be hard pressed to find a more authentically interpreted site in a very intimate setting. At Fort Dobbs guests interact with passionate and knowledgeable staff who have set the bar for historical interpretation in NC. Future plans include the reconstruction of the fort as funding allows, but the real story is about the people who made this history. That story is brought to life every day. Fort Dobbs is easy to access close to I-77 and I-40 in Statesville. The town has a great little historic town with cafes and shops. Makes a great day trip!
