On one small street, two unique gardens which show the vision of their individual owners, one as a sanctuary for birds in a lovely garden, the other as the laboratory of a renowned horticulturist and garden writer. There is always something to see year round in these lovely historic gardens.

this garden is maintained by a foundation the couple started. I was lucky enough to be in Charlotte when the Clarksons were still alive and to see birds come to sit on her hand and coo at her. And I was able to take my daughter there as a child. This is a favorite! Garden and bird sanctuary.

Beautiful place to take a walk and explore nature. Loved all the greenery, flowers and birds. So beautiful!

What a wonderful place! In the heart of Charlotte, just a few minutes from downtown. A 3ish acre bird sanctuary in the backyard of a gorgeous old home, filled with beautiful trees, herbs, topiaries and and wildlife. Don't skip the introductory video before visiting the garden- it will tell you the story of how the magical gardens came to be- really moving story!Give yourself plenty of time to stroll through and see what happens- we spotted several chipmunks and rabbits and sat and watched the birds on the benches. Part of the entry fee is admission to a garden down the street where every plant is labeled- such huge variety.

If you're feeling hassled by the stress of life, take a few minutes out of your day and walk the peaceful gardens of Wing Haven. You will be surrounded by nature, butterflies, birds and serenity. The soft sounds of the wildlife will muffle the loud sounds of the city and your stress level will be back to normal in no time.

Not a plethora of birds but the garden was nice. We didn't get there until late morning so they may have feasted prior to our arriving. Worth the $ 8.00 if you like gardens, paths and some history.

I had 12 hours to kill while in Charlotte, NC and I decided to go to the Wing Haven Garden on a Saturday morning. I love gardening and birds in the garden and this place is a perfect spot to wander and relax. The gardens are well kept and it is a thrill to know that this garden was started by a garden enthusiast to welcome birds and any wild life. The place is beautiful and worth spending two or three hours walking throughout. bring comfortable shoes, sunblock, and water. A fee of $8.00 allows you to also visit The Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden, 8 houses to the right. Smaller in size but with a great design and plants for sale. If you like gardens and birds in the garden, you will love both places.

I should disclose that I am a bird lover and this once private home, now garden is a wonderful sanctuary for birds. We went on a day when they were supposed to be closed and someone was nice enough to let us in any way so we had the garden to ourselves. We watched the video of how the owners had created the garden and then toured the gardens. Bring bug spray there are mosquitos though not swarms of them so don't panic. If you are a garden, bird person you will enjoy this. I went with my two children and they enjoyed it too. Entry fee was $8 for me and free for the kids. Located near Queens college and Freedom Park.

Wing Haven is a preserved 1920's home that the owners turned into a bird sanctuary. It's in a beautifully landscaped neighborhood. My old college roommates and I had girl's weekend in Charlotte recently and spent a few hours visiting this lovely place. The staff are very knowledgeable about the house, furnishings, and the gardens and answered all of our questions. I loved the gardens but honestly the highlight of our visit for me was a 10-15 minute film about the late couple who owned the home and how they came to create their little oasis in Charlotte. It was informative and they seemed so charming and passionate about their beloved birds, it made me want to meet them. Bring your camera: lots of beautiful fountains, birds, sculptures and flowers to photograph. Also, you'll want to take advantage of the bug spray they provide at the entrance to the garden.

We loved our visit to Wing Haven. Being fans of historic buildings & places, flowers, and birds, it was a must-see! But don't forget your bug spray...we got quite a few mosquito bites.

What a beautiful surprise in the middle of Charlotte! These lovely gardens are a wonderful place to reconnect with nature in the middle of the city. The story of the property and its former owners is very interesting, and the history that has been preserved is wonderful to see. I visited with my 6 year old daughter. Before visiting, we went to their website and printed out a scavenger hunt sheet for her to use on our visit. She loved looking for the things listed on the scavenger hunt, and it kept her attention for quite some time. We spent a couple of hours at the gardens and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I highly recommend the scavenger hunt sheets for anyone visiting with children. Children are free, and adults are only $8, so this was a bargain adventure for us. I'd definitely recommend!

If you can catch Wing Haven open and you are a bird watcher…it’s worth a visit during any season. Nestled into a 1920’s suburban neighborhood, this is an example of what is possible when a couple dedicates times and energy into the beauty of nature.

The main garden is the larger of the two and has an amazing scent and brings you back into nature. The smaller garden had more florals and brighter colors. Your entry fee pays to get into both. Overall it's a nice easy stroll and has lovely sights.

This was a beautiful stop on our trip to Charlotte. A 3 acre "backyard garden" beautifully designed and very natural . Lots of birds! We spent a lovely morning strolling and then headed down the street to the second garden. That one is less spectacular, but both offered inspiration for my green thumb. This is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood, close to the Nature Center, Freedom Park and bike paths. Definitely worth a stop.

We toured Wing Haven on Saturday while visiting friends in the area. It was a glorious day and the gardens were just beautiful with the spring flowers in bloom. The birds were singing and the chipmunks were scampering about. It was so peaceful there, I could have stayed all day.
