Walk? Ride a bike? Swim? Set on the dock and relax? Picnic? Rent a Shelter house for events?? Well kept lake area close to city proper. Enjoy!
Lake Shawnee is a little known treasure...bike and walking trails, absolutely gorgeous gardens (fun to go during different growing seasons) that are planted and maintained by lots of volunteers, a really nice baseball complex, lots of water and other activities plus a 36 hole golf course that is lots of fun. It is a WPA project that has been well maintained and improved!
This is the place for walking, biking, or rollerblading! By far the nicest place I have ever rollerblading! Quiet, beautiful, safe place to breath in fresh air and clear your mind of busyness!
Hey- this is a really nice lake with good facilities. It's not used enough by the locals, let alone travelers. the rental facilities range from very nice to rustic- don't miss the Christmas light show for a local charity, the Huff and Puff balloon festival or the 4th of July festivities.
Lake Shawnee is quite probably the best maintained park in the area for walkers, joggers, bicylist, children, handicapped and dogs. It has several indoor lodges and outdoor facilities for gatherings and picnics. The opportunities for recreation, boating and fishing are virtually unlimited. The gardens are the perfect place for relaxing, watching wildlife or holding weddings. It has correctly been called the Crown Jewel of Shawnee County.
Very nonchalant, very serene! I was awestruck by the beauty it could offer. One of the natural gifts!
When we moved to Topeka in 2008 we were surprised to find this prairie wonderland with camp grounds, ball fields, fishing dock, swimming beach, golf course and the Ted Ensley Gardens. The gardens make this lake a favorite place for us. We enjoy walking the 7 mile loop trail that goes around the lake. We enjoy the changing flowers at the gardens from spring tulips to autumn's last chrysanthemum. Perhaps our favorite times to visit in the park is for the fireworks on July 4th and the annual Huff n' Puff hot air balloon launches in September. New resident or passing traveler will find it worthwhile to spend a few hours in the peaceful place.
Flowers are in bloom 3 seasons; the landscaping is beautifully done with walks and bike trails you will love. The hardscapes are well done.
Beautiful grounds and gardens. Wonderful walking/bike path all around the lake. Wonderful, playground equipment. Marina. Beach for swimming. Lots of picnic space with beautiful views of the lake.
Lake Shawnee has wonderful memories. We always go there to see the fireworks. My daughter's wedding was at the gazebo. The flowers are beautiful. We used to sail our boat, there. There is golf and camping. Activities for all!
The place was hard to find, coz somehow we couldnt get the address detected by our gps. we went on a satrday so, the office was closed. anyways finally reached the lake spot, and got the pedaling boat, with my husband.. it was just $5 for that for half hour. It was worth it, i must say. Really had fun. there are much more to do there. it is a great picnic spot and the place is so neat. the kids would love it.
Lake Shawnee is one of the best urban parks in the country. Excellent facilities, trails, trees with lots of shade and the baseball facilities are the best! You've got to visit this park and enjoy the beautiful lake!!
We were trying to find a pretty place in Topeka. It's not that there isn't one but that side of town is older and has a lot of businesses and older homes. Then we took a road that led us to the lake. It was a very nice place to see. There were families walking about and fishing.
This is a large lake in the suburbs of Topeka. The park offers a botanical garden on the west side, a marina that rents paddle boats and kayaks. There is camping for RVs and tents, tennis courts and a golf course. A seven mile paved trail circles the lake for walkers and cyclists. It's easy to spend an entire day investigating the lovely features at this county park.
I have visited Lake Shawnee many times for 5K's. Thought it would be a great place for a long camping weekend. I was not wrong. The camp sites are equipped with a security gate, quiet hours, a great view of the lake, electric/water hookups, swimming beach & easy access for fishing/kayaking. We had a very enjoyable weekend. The lake is well manicured & maintained with cement sidewalks, mowed, beautiful gardens, geese, wildlife and easy access for dinner out, bait, beer, ice cream, fuel, etc. The close by neighborhoods are taken care if. A very nice area in Topeka, KS. The only complaint: the beach closes at 6:00 as well as the paddle boats. We were really disappointed with the summer hours :(
