This was a good stop. You get a personal tour by a county worker dressed in the era. It was informative and in depth of the two families that lived and owned the Stone House.

We thought that we were just going to pop in, look around, & then head home but we wound up with a very informative tour led by a very nice gal in time period clothing. We learned a lot about the family & about several items in the house that we had no idea how they were used or what purpose they served. We want to come back sometime when we have more time to read all of the stuff in the room devoted to pioneer women, etc. This was worth stopping for!

This was a great tour. You get a personal tour of the house. They are very knowledgeable about the house. Some pieces of furniture are original to the house.

This is a neat diversion. It is a historic building that has been nicely preserved. it isn't perfect, big or large budgeted but is a neat slice of history and a pretty quick stop that is expertly narrated by a live tour guide. Our tour guide was great. She was knowledgable and had a sense of humor and wasn't just monotone and stuck to the script but was happy to interact and listen and take questions. I would do it again.

This home was built by a wealth family in 1880's and over the following years lived in by two families. Lots of photographs and original furniture and decor. The home was renovated in the 1940's with indoor plumbing and a "modern kitchen". The carpet is over 100 hundred years old. Docents offer lots of informative facts about the construction and residents.

Found it interesting and then some! They're only open for 3 months out of the year due to the 2nd owners request. We went on the first weekend it was opened and the sweet girls giving us the your couldn't have been more sweet and knowledgable! Amazing how old this home is and there's only been 2 owners EVER. You've got to stop and take the hour long tour! Amazing and FREE.

The house is well preserved, the tour guide was knowledgeable and many of the furnishings were original. Very interesting and worth the 30-40 minutes it takes for the tour. And it was free!

This was a really neat historic home and the young lady who was our tour guide had fantastic information to share. As with everyone we encountered in Dodge City she was friendly and delightful to talk with.

We were in Dodge City on Memorial Day. I had found the Mueller-Schmidt House (Home of Stone) on tripadvisor's list of things to do in Dodge City. The website for this house (Ford County Historical Society) showed the hours as from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Well, we were there on Memorial Day, and the house was closed. No one home. We called the number listed on the website and got a recording saying to leave a message. Very disappointed. Website needs to be changed, or someone should be there, or at least answer the phone.

Got to see the Stone house after finding it on the trolley tour. It was a little disappointing that the home had been modernized, but not until the 1940's Many old features are still intact like the transom windows, but the original glass frnt doors are gone. Docent was VERY knowledgeable and had some REALLY good stories to tell.

For history, this is the best place I think. It wasn't open when I was there in Sept. :( but I have been there before. It's a free will donation and the REAL old west, not the fake stuff!

Great artifacts accompanied by guides who were able to answer my questions. If you like history you'll enjoy this.

I grew up in Dodge City and have visited the Home of Stone a couple of times. On trips back my wife and I had talked about visiting and were finally able to take the kids there on our most recent trip. The tour was quite interesting. The guide was very knowledgable. Although a small, local museum, the Home of Stone is worth the time to visit.

The home of stone gives visitors a glimpse into that part of the country's history, especially of Dodge City. Touring the inside of the home is an incredible experience - you're really transported back in time with so many original items in the home. Add to that the volume of artifacts on display at any given time - unique tidbits, photos, original letters, tools, etc - all original (in a town where some areas have been over commercialized) is very refreshing.
