4 friends wandered in this pub after a fabulous dinner nearby at Pancho & Lefty's and when we sat at the bar, we were completely ignored by the owner/bartender. When he finally did come over and asked where we were from, we said, northern Illinois. He said, "FIB's huh"? Really, and he was not kidding. We tried to spark up a conversation with him and he made racist remarks about African Americans and Hispanics in the town. We were totally shocked. He stated the reason why his business is cut in half is because he used to be the only non-smoking bar and when the new law passed, it ruined him. We then asked for a "safe ride" home, which we were encouraged by other locals to use to get home. We asked Steve (?) to call for us and he reluctantly did. A cab driver came in about 10 minutes and when we got in the cab, the driver asked for the paperwork. We had no idea what he was talking about and he said the owner had to fill out paperwork for the safe ride, but now we had to pay for it. Which was fine, BUT this owner did that without any intention of giving us paperwork, so we would have to pay for the ride. It is not the laws, government, non-smokers or smokers that is causing him to lose business - HE is the problem! All 4 of us were insulted and shocked by his behavior and treatment. The people he hates from Illinois are the few people that are spending their money there until they realize what a total jerk this guy is. STAY OUT OF THIS BAR - there are too many other businesses to frequent in this town.
