This is one of the best museums in the country if not the world. They are continually changing exhibits making each visit interesting, but are true to their core exhibitions. Their gems are spectacular and dinosaurs great, sometimes even scary. The sculpture gallery show how the ancients and masters worked. we always come away with new knowledge and appreciation for the world we live in a must see and reset!!

We visited the museum on a Saturday afternoon, starting with lunch. (We are members, for us it's well worth the expense. Full price entrance for adults is $17.95 each, so with a dual membership at $100., which includes entrance to four different museums as well a discount on food and in the museum stores.) Lunch at the Carnegie Cafe was decent, as expected Saturday is a big family day, so there were lots of kiddos and lots of noise. On to the museum....the building itself is beautiful, not sure when the original construction was but wow! The exhibits are well done, and informative. Great for young and old alike. Lots of things for families to engage and entertain the aforementioned kiddos, as I said, well done. We visited the Eskimo and the Native American section, done regionally but I found the flow of the exhibit a little confusing. Lots more to see on another day, another great benefit of a membership-stay a couple of hours and come back another day. No need to do everything in one trip. And the art museum is located in same complex! Love that! We'll be back

This was my second visit to the museum within the last five years. The first time I visited, everything was exciting and interesting to me since I had never been there before. The second time, I feel like nothing had really changed and didn't really note any new exhibits. They should bring in some new and different things to keep it interesting and keep people wanting to return. The tickets are also pretty pricey. I wish they would give a discount for Pitt alumni, like they do for students. However, they have very nice dinosaur exhibits and the rocks and minerals section was neat. We went on a Saturday and the museum was very busy with a lot of families and you had a to wait a while to get a good look at some of the exhibits, so if you're looking for a quieter time, it would probably be best to go on a weekday. I probably wouldn't go back again unless they completely changed some of the exhibits and got some new things.

This have everything to offer and more, one the best places for a family to visit on a cold rainy day.

Dinosaurs? Check.Ancient Egyptians? Check.Taxidermy animals to take selfies with? Check.Kid-Friendly? Obviously.Casts of statues and architecture from around the world? Definitely.I could seriously visit this place once a month. Because I have been here multiple times and I know I still haven't seen everything.There are exhibits that come for short amounts of time, and there are exhibits that are permanent.Even if you aren't a history buff, I think you'll really have a good time!I'm already planning my next visit, which I'll be bringing along a 5-year-old. That should get a great review too*And I clicked "More than 3 hours" for my recommended visit length because there are multiple floors of items to look at, and two sections (the natural history portion and the art portion) and both are part of your admittance.If you look on the website, you can see that there are times when it's only $5 for admission for some people, and definitely you should know that if you have a valid student ID then you get $6 off the price of admission. And who doesn't love a deal like that?!It's hard for me to decide what to really boast about, so I just want to give it an overall excellent recommendation and stress that with all of the things to see, you really should make time to visit this place if you're in Pittsburgh!

As I am interested in the time when dinosaurs lived on earth I found the dinosaur exhibit very interesting, and very informative.

I'm giving the museum 4/5 stars because it simply isn't big enough! I love this place and therefore my review may be somewhat bias, but that's ok. When I was a small boy in the mid 1970's my mother would frequently walk me down the hill into Oakland and into the museum for two reasons: 1) The dinosaur exhibit which is one of the best and IS the largest display of Jurassic dinosaurs on the globe; 2) Carnegie library is adjacent to the museum. My favorite was and still is the dinosaurs. I would stare up at them for hours, fascinated by the skeletal remains of the prehistoric monsters, including the worlds first T-Rex specimen. Museum scientists also uncovered the first Diplodocus in 1899. Besides the big boys of yesteryear the last 30 years have brought about two other favorite exhibits. The Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems and the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt. For those of you who like shiny expensive things the Hillman Hall is full of 'em. For ancient Egypt buffs like me, you'll feel right at home in the Walton Hall with some brilliant specimens. There's also a rather large insect collection that was also featured in "Silence of the Lambs". The art exhibits are also quite spectacular and the Museum manages to wrangle some of the finest works in the world for some of their changing exhibits. Usually seasonal or every 2-3,4 months. Some of the more exclusive exhibits can run for only a mere 4-8 weeks. If you see an exhibit you may like to see don't hesitate. I've done that and turned around to find the exhibit gone.Its a wonderful place to get lost in regardless of your museum ideals. There is so much to see. An absolute smorgasbord of interests. Also, as I had mentioned, the Carnegie library is accessible from the museum. Its a rather large two floor library with no shortage of books by any means. Internet access on any number of computers as well as microfilm and a massive reference book section. If you can't find some kind of info on whatever it is you're looking for in this library, then it doesn't exist.When visiting the museum you may come and go as you please throughout the day. There is a cafe and cafeteria. However, the museum is located at Forbes and Craig St. and Craig St. has quite a few casual eateries that one may prefer. All in all, make a day of it (if not more). If you're just visiting Pgh this a place you'll remember for years to come. Enjoy!!Admission is $17.95/adults; $14.95/seniors 65+; $11.95/kids 3-18. There are a couple of other student discounts and after 4 on Thur. admission is $10/adult & senior; $5 student/kids. The fee includes Museum of Nat. History & Museum of Art. Both closed on Tuesdays.Check hours before you go since they vary seasonally. The library hours differ from the museums and also vary seasonally.There is a parking garage for a fee, however if at all possible take the bus into Oakland. other parking is not easy to find and rush hour in Oakland = death.

This is by far, one of the best museums in the country. It has a wonderful art collection, excellent mineral collection, and the dinosaur collection is actually better than the Museum of Natural History in NYC. After all.....Andrew Carnegie was a Pittsburgher, so do you really think he would "go cheap" on his home town museum??

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History has a little bit of fun for the entire family. The displays are quite educational and intersting. Plan for a whole day as there is a lot to see there.

Dinos, fossils, animals and gems. The exhibits are so well curated - we have never seen such real looking animal exhibits with such attention to detail. Ther is also a hands on area for kids to dig up bones, to do puzzles, etc.

This is a beautiful building with amazing fossils. To think that they carved out part of a mountain to get a fossil from out west to Pittsburgh, in the early 1900's is mind boggling. You have to appreciate everything about this museum. Don't forget that the museum of art is in the same building. So much to see!

If you are a fan of natural history, you'll love this museum. Unfortunately I discovered I'm not that big of a fan. We went to the Oddities After Dark expecting some interesting interactive exhibits. I wasn't that impressed with the "oddities" they offered, but it would be good for history buffs who enjoy that type of environment.

The museum had lots of dinosaurs and lots of great activities for kids! It was very well organized with clean restrooms. Parking is very easy but does cost $6. Teacher and student discounts are available.

The best museum I have been to hands-down. A great place to go with kids. Very educational. There is a lot to see and there's a lot of walking involved. A lot of interactive stuff for the kids and adults. The best Dinosaur display I have ever seen. They also have a huge mineral and Crystal display which was my favorite. Very nice gift shop with very reasonable prices. Enjoy!

Absolutely beautiful displays of gems and minerals; excellent display of flourescent minerals. Huge dinosaurs in large exhibits, ability to watch scientists examining fossils. Big bug collection. Just a wonderful museum.
