Great boardwalk along the ocean. It is about 1 mile long. It will eventually connect to McCook Beach park which will allow longer walks.
Nice place for a stroll or just to sit and watch the waves. Nice beach area and the boardwalk is a great place to get some exercise. Highly recommend!!
Disappointing. Boardwalk stops abruptly. Nuclear power plant visible during whole walk. Train tracks are parallel to boardwalk and trains go by regularly. Nice beach. I enjoyed engraved plaques on wall.
What can we all say...........loved it but eagerly waiting to see it built back up, many people have enjoyed walking and or sitting on the benches overlooking the water.
The board walk makes for a pleasant walk along the beach yet there is only one access point to it near the parking area. I never saw they whole board walk as some of it got washed away a few years back. So essentially you get to walk to a dead end and walk back while having views of the bay. There were no life guards when we visited.
The Niantic area has a lot to offer in just a few short streets. Ice cream, movie theater, children's museum, restaurants, fishing, beach, shopping and more. The boardwalk, although along the beach and separate from the other attraction, still ties it all together. The boardwalk itself is short compared to many popular and well know boardwalks, but it is every but as enjoyable. You can enjoy a day at the beach with a walk, a slow stroll after dinner, or just an evening watching the sky and bay at sunset
If you plan on pushing a stroller and sitting on a bench during the summer, visiting at sundown is much better. Watch the sky turn pink/purple, watch the boats pass under the drawbridge, listen to the gentle surf…so relaxing! Until the occasional amtrak train flies by on the tracks right behind you.
Board walk needs a lot of work, more than half mile of it is not in a walking condition, clean up crew need to be more present at the sites, too much garbage all over.
