Meigs point, is at the northern end of Hammonasset State Park, which is actually the eastern most part of the park, don't ask. at any rate there is a multitude of gigantic stones that were dropped by a glacier that created Long Island Sound. it is a beautiful spot overlooking Long Island Sound. it is a short walk from the small parking lot, with benches along the way. it's a beautiful spot and the kids will like it too, they seem to like playing among the giant boulders.

Great place to bring the kids, or grand kid . Small enough to do in a hour but still great for the kids. Then back on the path for a walk.

Good beach but stay away from Marc's east beach grill. He smokes cigarettes which he is cooking, health problem there.

We took two 4 (nearly 5) yr olds and an 8 yr old to the Nature Centre where we happened to be just on time for their 1pm "Aquatic Adventure". (They do an activity at 1pm every day except Monday.) A very nice ranger named Mike, young guy, took the group over to a rocky area of the park, a short walk from the Nature Centre, and told the kids about Asian Shore Crabs, an invasive species. The kids spent about 20 minutes catching (or trying to catch) as many crabs as they could, took them back to the Nature Centre and fed them to the resident terrapin. Then they did a related craft activity. After we hung out on the beach for a couple of hours. There's lots to explore, including a rocky point that is fun (if a bit treacherous) to walk out to the end of. A concession stand and vending machines had ice cream snacks and drinks. The kids were outdoors, had fun and learned something all at the same time without the hype and commercialism of an amusement park or "attraction". Loved it.

The Meigs Point Nature Center is located at Hammonasett Beach State Park. The Nature Center is small but packed with exhibits. There are some large snakes that are noted not to be local, birds, amphibians, and fish, as well as some taxidermy examples. When we visited a naturalist was giving a talk on reptiles, very knowledgeable. Live specimens were handled adding to the allure for children. There is also a touch tank. As part of a beach daytrip I would recommend a stop at this Center, but it is not worthy of a trip in itself. Excellent parking at the doorstep, and a small selection of T-shirts for souvenir purchases.

I worked here in the summer of 1980. We had a nice setup of critters and such and gave walks, but now it really is much nicer. There are many more animals on display. The whole area around the center is really nice and there are lots of places to walk to - the beach, the marsh. Parking lot is very full in the summer!

Child friendly, very nice staff, lots of fun! Enjoyed looking at the fish, and had a great time playing with the interactive exhibits. Also pretty gardens outside that the kids enjoy running through ( on the paths of course!)

It's not a big nature center but it's very good for the size of it. Really good to go to for anyone but probably even more so for children.

Great place to visit on your own or for one of their programs! Canoe trips, fire side stories, stargazing and a great place to have a Birthday Party! Something to learn in every visit!!
