We all have lived here for a while, but only just got around to hitting up Port City Brewery. Got there around 5:30p, hung out til the 6p tour. It was a good time - our guide (I can't remember what his name was, but his nametag said "Dick," lol) was energetic and did not seem like he was just rallying for the last tour of the night, which was nice. The ticket system with for the tastings was much better than other breweries, but the facilities were pretty underwhelming. But this is coming from a PA girl whose first brewery experience was Yuengling, so...haha. The beers themselves are, of course, fantastic. I think I'd have to pick the porter as my fave, but I didn't have one I didn't like. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the lack of food. Even just basic bar food would be great.

The brewery has a tasting room where you can enjoy all of the Port City offerings. If you enjoy beer, this is a great place to have a fun time. I think Port City's best beer is the porter. But, my friends who are hop heads enjoy an array of other Port City beers that range on the hoppy side. The staff here is very friendly. The tasting room supper clean and cozy. Brewery tours are also interesting. There's also some sort of entertainment on many evenings. A real array of different customers enjoy Port City.

A neighbor told us about this place. We're now regulars and LOVE it. Live music on the weekend, you can bring in your own food (they only serve beer - no food), and enjoy a couple of pints of something special. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about the different micro-brews and will even mix one specially for your taste.

While taking a day trip to Alexandria, my friend and I decided to check out Port City and certainly did not regret it! The brewery is about a 15 minute drive from the waterfront area of Alexandria and is such a bargain! They have awesome beer and staff; for just $10 you get to see the facilities, hear about the brewing process, and try six, 6 oz Port City beers in addition to a fresh sample on the tour! It seemed like it would be a nice place to just hang out, too, even if you were not planning on doing the tour package. I would recommend eating before or planning on having a DD if you decide to enjoy all of the samples (which you should!) and are lightweights like my friend and I:)

Visited this brewery a few weeks ago and had a great time. The tap room was packed but everyone was super friendly that worked there. We even played cornhole with one of the staff in sales and me and him almost beat my husband and son 20/21. What a great place to stop in and have a few beers! Thanks guys at PortCity.

This place is great! Everyone working is so friendly and the beer is amazing! It's a super fun place to socialize and enjoy some great brews!!

An unassuming brewery that offers a great flight where you can choose what you'd like to sample instead of it being selected for you, which score major cool points with me. The atmosphere was warm and engaging and the appearance of the Borequeno food truck was awesome since we were getting hungry and a bit buzzed. A cool place to hang out

So I've somehow lived in the area for years and failed to make a weekend trip to Port City. So this Sunday - we decided to change that. What a great time. The brewery is located in an industrial park - nothing special to look at but you can park right next to the entrance or along the streets. The entrance leads you to a tasting room with two main bar areas and ample seating in the middle. Baseball was on the big screen and I was a happy guy! For $10 you get a tour and a tasting. I was actually more interested in the tasting than the tour and they were happy to let us take it out of order. What I loved about Port City's system is that they give you 6 little tickets - and YOU decide what you want your tasting to be - and how long between beers you want to sit there. That was great - I could take the two Pale Ales - and compare and contrast those without being rushed. I am not into coffee stouts - so I gladly skipped that one - and tried their Derecho Common (very good!). The staff was very knowledgable - they knew their beer and their details - always good to see. I will definitely be back. I'm not a huge beer guy anymore but this was fun - as a group event- it would be even more special.

Port City Brewing Company is practically in our backyard in Alexandria but we didn't discover it until last winter when our son bought my husband a growler of their craft brew for Christmas. We've since visited several times and introduced friends to Port City. We were there early Saturday evening and it was packed with 50 happy imbibers. Take the tour: for $10, you get a backlot tour of the brewery and five tickets for 6-oz pours of their microbrews. My current favorite: Tartan ale, a hearty beer that falls between the lighter IPAs and the stouts. My husband came away with a growler filled with Colossal Two, a smoked imperial stout. "Hints of bacon", for real! Their fame is growing -- Chef Geoff of the eponymous restaurant chain just commissioned a beer named Northwest -- so go soon before the line is out the door!

Port City is only about two miles from my house and I've visited here several times since it opened. I've done the tour a few times, stopped by to have my growler filled before parties, and even gone in just to have a drink. Basically they just make delicious beer in a very laid-back, friendly environment.

Some breweries are breweries and restaurants, but this one is a straightforward beer-tasting event, much like a typical winery. There is little more to the brewery besides a tasting room and the brewery. The tasting room has mostly tall tables with limited seating for about 50 people and two bars serving the craft beers. It's very casual in decor. You can take a tour (with samples) and taste a flight of six different beers for just $15; if you just do the tasting, it's only $9; very reasonable prices for that many tastes. The tour is not that exciting - just a lot of beer-making equipment in a large warehouse space. The beers are very good, though, and quite varied between lagers, ales, wheat and fruit beers, etc. Quite a good and varied selection.

Even if you're not huge beer fan, This place is still tons of fun. Here's the Skinny.. $9 a ticket, that includes 6 drink tickets and a keep-sake glass. The tasters are good size too. Before your tour begins they give a free fill-up. Even during the tour we had a chance to try a beer along the way. So really 8 beers for your $9.. Talk about bang for your buck!!! Lou was our tour guide. Very funny and knows his beer. Tour last just under an hour. Jamie was our bartender. He was the best!!! Highly recommend the Optimal Whit, Colossal 3, and the Revival Oyster. By far the best I tried. The place was packed. Even birthday was being held in the brew room. There are no food options on site. Only the slinging of beer, laughs and good times. You can purchase 6 packs, growlers to go. This is a must if you're in the area.

I met Bill (the owner) at a Port City beer tasting last year at J. Gilberts in Reston, and enjoyed some of his brews. He was also very down to earth and extremely informed regarding his beer process and vision for Port City.A friend got me a gift card last Christmas and I never made it up there, so last weekend I finally had an opportunity and made the trek from Prince William. We did a flight for $9, which got us 7 small beers (<4 oz or so). We also ended up buying a growler of my favorite beer they make, the Revival Oyster Stout. I asked why they don't bottle it but the bartender said it was super expensive to make since they buy fresh local oysters, but its one of Bill's favorites as well. They'd probably have to selll 6 packs for $15+ which would be tough with all the other choices for beer consumers. The brewery is small, and I wish I had taken a tour, which they do hourly on weekends. But we stood around a table, watched the 1 TV which had the NFL playoff game, and enjoyed some good suds. No food options, although a grilled cheese food truck rolled up around dinner time.
