On the day we decided to go see the monuments it was cloudy and drizzly. The monuments were quite a distance from each other so we decided to drive to each one, park and then take pictures. We were lucky to get a parking spot at each one otherwise we wouldn't have been able to stop to take pictures. But if the weather was nicer and we didn't already spend 5 hours at the VMFA we probably would have walked. The monuments were larger than expected so they were quite impressive.

Monument Avenue has an ambiance all it's own. Have you ever been on any other avenue or road where there are huge monuments in the middle of the road? I find these monuments absolutely fascinating. The monuments and history of them are so worth the walk and or drive.

As Gertrude Stein might have said about our city " there is no there there." It's quite true we haven't a center. But monument avenue is an amazing axis filled with roundabouts , statues and world class architecture. One can actually travel from post civil war Itlaianate houses to the early 20 th century colonial revival houses on this famous boulevard. William Bottomley and Duncan Lee designs are plentiful - a drive along this avenue is a history lesson itself. It is the best of the best!

If you want to know your history, this is indeed the place to visit. Fantastic statuary abounds. It also helps that the architecture of the surrounding houses compliments the look. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful monuments honoring heroes of the Civil War. As you ride you also get to see very nice houses reflecting the style of the period when they were built.

This is a must see drive when in Richmond. You will see statues of most noted Virginians, mostly from the Civil War era, but with others also, noted. Besides the statues, the architecture is a trip through the 19th & early 20th century.

Rich in history, beautifully diverse late 19th and early 20th century architecture, and a preserved stone street bed all combine to make a visually rich experience. So many houses have wonderful stories and there is a holiday house tour that is not to be missed. And one cannot forget the monuments. Again, each with a fascinating backstory. Loved it so much, we moved here!

Lived just above the Boulevard at Matthew Maury Circle so I spent many hours on Monument. Love the homes and true avenue feel of this national treasure. You should see it at Christmas.
