We lived in Big Spring for two (very long) years and this place was always a nice spot to take our dogs for a walk and do a little exploring. Since there is not a whole lot to do in Big Spring, this was always a good area for us.

If passing by Big Spring, we recommend a stop at Big Spring State Park. There's nice trails that'll have you see wildlife, flowers, cactuses etc. It's a beautiful, rugged area. And if you don't like nature and wildlife, it's still worth the visit just to see the sunset from the top of the park.

A nice park right in town. It is a rather nice, rugged small mountain. There is a road to drive or walk on as well as a trail that leads to the top. When it is not too hot, it is fun to take the trail and see wildlife, cactus and flowers. There is a playground and picnic area at the top. The view is very nice, especially on a clear day.

This is a nice place to get out and walk and see the spring ponds. It's worth a stop and very easy to access from the main road.

For almost 80 years, this park has been a part of Big Spring's history. A great place to take the kids for a picnic or to burn off some energy at the playgrounds. The CCC touches, large shade trees, and the historic totem pole evoke the heritage of this state park.

This small State Park is one of Big Spring's biggest assets. If you want a safe place to walk or jog, and at the same time, view a beautiful West Texas sunrise or sunset, this is the place to go. This park is popular with the locals for walking, jogging and taking the dog for a stroll. It is open from 8:00am to sunset, and admission is free. There is a smail playground at the top of "the mountain," with several picnic tables and a covered pavillion that may be reserved for parties. This is West Texas, so don't expect a Rocky Mountain-like view- it is flat and desert-like- but beautiful just the same. Local road races are often held here- there is even a midnight run held 3 or 4 times in the summer on Friday nights when there is a full moon- check out the timingspecialist.com website. I enjoyed visiting there after work for a challenging jog and a chance to unwind. I wouldn't plan on spending more than an hour or so there- and be sure to bring water, as the West Texas summers can be unbelievably hot and dry.
