My college age granddaughter & I decided we wanted to visit Big Bend & not wanting to just drive around without any info-I found Big Bend Expeditions online. After speaking to Jennifer briefly on the telephone we made our reservation for the afternoon of May 30,2014. We arrived at Ten Bits & was greeted by Jennifer & discovered she was going to be our tour guide. Jennifer is extremely knowledgeable of the entire are-she was very friendly & asked us what we wanted to look at she gave very detailed information about the vegetation, mountains & history of the entire area while on the tour. This was great !!!!

Seven experienced birders hired a guide through big bend expeditions. Jennifer of Ten Bits Ranch arranged a guide. He was pleasant, knowledgeable about flowers, history, and some geology. He knew very little about birding. We did lots of driving, walking and a little birding that need no expertise. We were charged $85 each, and used our own vehicles. This area is legendary for local and migrating birds, and people come long distance to see these uncommon birds. We were overcharged for the experience and guide who's usual job is driving raft shuttles. We were misled, by Jennifer the manager of the company.

There's nowhere in the world like the Big Bend region of far west Texas, and even though we're city slickers (San Antonio), we love the peace and rugged isolation of this area. We've ridden horses and taken raft trips through there in the past, but this time two individuals in our party were suffering with some health challenges that made us decide to try a 'jeep' expedition. Our jeep was an air-conditioned, very comfortable Suburban, and our guide - a gregarious, extremely knowledgeable middle-aged man - immediately put us at ease. The tour was a little longer than 3 hours and the time just flew by as he drove us into the back areas of fabulous portions of Big Bend that we would never have seen otherwise. We didn't even know it was there! Jim told us about Indian folklore and legends that came from these back areas, explained the uses for many types of cacti, trees, and shrubs, and was even able to tell us where some of the unusual names for mountains and rocks had come from. Since we are all camera nuts, he had to stop dozens of times for photographs but never complained. He seemed to enjoy himself as much as we did.We had the most marvelous time and will highly recommend this company every chance we get. And we won't use any other guide unless we're forced to. Just ask for 'Jim'. They'll know who you mean!

Not much to see in the Ghost Town itself but Big Bend National Park which is a short drive is definitely a must see. So much variety and the views are amazing. It seems like everywhere you look that something is different from the view before. Will definitely go back and see more next time. It was nice to go to the Ghost Town I just wouldn't stay there I would stay somewhere else.
