I took this scenic drive at 4:30 in the morning. It was well worth the early wake up call. The sunrise was beautiful. We didn't see many animals but the pink sky with the mountains was wonderful. One thing to note, there were millions of mosquitos so make sure you have bug spray.

We absolutely considered this to be THE place to guarantee wildlife sightings on our trip. We woke up before dawn to travel the road and view the sunrise from the top. We almost missed it because we were so captivated by all of the elk and deer we saw on the way up. We also came back in the evening and once again saw many animals. We brought out parents the next morning, and were not disappointed. We visited in early October, which is during the rut season, so that probably worked in our favor. The road is 5 miles long, paved, and winds it's way up the mountain. There is no reason to go fast, but you wouldn't want to anyway. The majority of the trip is through dense forest, but there are a few pull-off areas where you can see beautiful vistas through the trees. We considered one of the best views to be at Jackson Point Overlook, which is about three quarters of the way up. There is a small parking area, and a trail off to the right that has great views of the Tetons. You can also see the valley and Snake River from this area, and we spotted a huge mule deer early in the morning grazing. We continued the remaining way to the top, but preferred the other areas best. Overall we saw too many elk to count, including huge males, and several mule deer with huge horn racks. We also saw a grouse. The road entrance is located north of Jenny Lake Lodge, but before Signal Mountain Lodge along Teton Park Road. The summit is 7,727 ft, and hiking trails are also available.

This road twists and turns ever higher and higher. There are a couple of stops for views. From the top you can see for miles, its incredible. We visited here after the long cascade canyon hike so took the opportunity to get out the camp shower and freshen up looking out over miles of wilderness, breathtaking.

An easy excursion off the main road. We actually found the lookout prior to the end of the road (second lookout) to provide the best views of the Tetons from the mountain - and a great picnic place if you don't mind cozying up to a bush. Feel free to do both stops as they are both unique.

This road is narrow and very winding. If you travel this road…drive slow….I am surprised there hasn’t been more accidents on this road. There were a lot of drivers driving way too fast for these roads. People have to understand you are on vacation and you do not need to drive like a road demon. Sit back and enjoy your time in nature. We only went up to the first lookout area. The views were amazing and it is a must see for everyone. Even in the parking area it has great views. But you just need to walk a few hundred feet and you can see from miles in almost all directions.

A good paved road, somewhat narrow and winding but still a good road. The view at the top is stunning and you are certain to see wild life if you travel this road early in the morning or late in the afternoon. We went at both times and saw elk and deer both times. The top gives you an excellent photo op in early am when the mist surrounds the mountain and fills the valley.

10 years ago we found lots of wildlife on this road in the fall.. moose, elk, martin, deer. This year same season.. and we could only find a few deer. The views are a nice way to get the lay of the land in the area, but the wildlife seems to have moved on.

if ya got time (especially during an afternoon storm) drive up to Signal Mtn and see the Tetons as not see anywhere elsetake your time up and down as elk, moose, porcupine and deer can be spotted

Somewhat winding but road pavement is new and the view is worth the 10-15 minute drive to the top. You can see for miles looking over the Jackson Hole or valley below.

It's a pretty drive, but there aren't many stunning views as there is fairly dense forest all around the road. There is one great view from a turnout about 1/3-1/2 of the way up on the left side. The top is a good place to camp out and scout for wildlife. Some older couples had brought some nice binoculars with them and were kind enough to let us use them for a minute to spot some wildlife on the fields/in the forest below. If you have time and are interested in nature, that would be a fun activity. On the drive back down we were lucky enough to see 6 deer - 4 female and 2 male. They walked right across the road. We got some great pictures and a close up view. It's worthwhile if you're in the park for several days, but as we were only there for 1 day it was just an okay use of our time. The deer encounter and people at the top did help make it a good trip though.

One of the main things I don't like about road trips is that a lot of these "scenic" roads have steep drop-offs and hairpin turns. This road is not like that at all. The road is somewhat narrow, but is lined with beautiful lodge pole pines. You never get that drop-off feeling. The summit rewards you with breath-taking views of the valley below and the beautiful peaks beyond.

The drive to the top of Signal Mountain provides utterly stunning overviews of the Tetons and Jackson Hole. One appreciates why 'Hole' is the word the old explorers and trappers used to describe a valley area.As one drives northwards through the park, all the mountains seem to be on the west side of the road, i.e. the Grand Teton range, and it doesn't appear to make sense that the map indicates a potential viewpoint on the right-hand side of the road. It simply isn't evident that there could be this tremendous viewpoint available and it cannot be readily seen from the roadway. It is, unexplainably, not apparent at all and it could be all too easy to miss it or simply dismiss it. DON'T. Or you could be terribly disappointed. The drive wanders through forests, climbing all the time, until it reaches the summit outlooks. And it proves tremendously worthwhile. Relatively near to where one turns off, and where one begins to climb, there is a beautiful small, lilly-covered lake on the right side of the road as one drives up. Although they weren't present when we stopped, it looks to be ideal moose habitat, so pause and spend some time there. I imagine early morning or late afternoon would be best. This outlook wasn't nearly as busy as others and it seems many visitors may not appreciate its significance. Make sure you don't miss out on a marvellous experience amongst a myriad of stunning sceneries.

Driving the road gives you small glimpses of the view through the trees, but few pull outs. The view from the top didn't do much for us and getting out to try to enjoy it was difficult due to the bugs. If you go, I'd suggest spraying yourself liberally with bug spray and hiking it instead.

Great place to take pictures. A must see in this park. I don't like driving on mountains but it was a pretty easy ride. If you are in this area consider eating at the signal mountain lodge nearby. There are 2 restaurants. We tried the one with the lake view patio and the food was very good.
