This beautiful brick Georgian Colonial House is located on an oasis of green surrounded by state worker parking lots. Built in 1719, it is a grand manor with large rooms, high ceilings, and lots of light. The furnishings are spare (as befits a Quaker owner) and authentic. When Trent died, his heirs took an inventory of the house and the furnishings today match the inventory. The tour of the house is fascinating and takes around an hour. It's great for kids and adults and the guide will pretty much tailor the tour according to your interests. From this house you get a real feel for how the wealthy would have lived in the early days of European civilization on this continent.In season, there's also an interesting Colonial kitchen garden growing heirloom vegetables.This site is not to be missed by lovers of American history, architecture, antiques or archeology.Note: the house has been neglected on the exterior for some years, but there is a current project that will restore and repaint the exterior wood.

We had planned a day in Trenton visiting historical sites and arrived at this important historic house at 12:25pm. The posted and advertised opening time is 12:30pm. After waiting about fifteen minutes we found that one panel of wood fence was pulled back, with big screws exposed and hazardous, which constituted a breach of security to the entire site. We entered the area through this openi9ng and waited on a bench near the visitors center. The site was weedy, in need of mowing, and was quite unkempt. There were big green garbage bags lying on the ground at various places on the site. The "historic garden" was shabby. By 1:10pm the site was still not open so we left the way that we had entered.

My expectation were low but this was a great tour. The whole set up is very low key, you just walk into the stables and the only worker there will guide you around the property and inside the home. Great visit if you have a free day during the weekend. Learned a lot about William Trent, his home, and the town he founded. I think the tour lasted a little over an hour.

Tour guide very knowledgeable. Definitely worth the admission of $5 adults $4 kids. It seems as not many people visit and status of home may be in doubt. If you live close and appreciate history you should check it out .

Knowing the history of the building and what it was used for and the architecture used in it's creation give thought to our history and how many cultures have contributed to the man who Trenton was named after.

This house with amazingly large rooms is the founding homestead of Trenton, Nj. Four rooms on the first floor, four rooms on the second floor, and the basement kitchen are all included on the tour. The spring house is not currently accessible. The garden is self-guided.It is an enjoyable tour and worth the trip. It is very close to the Barracks museum and the NJ statehouse.

A guided tour paints a full picture of living here in colonial times. The kitchen gardens are wonderful.
