We have had season tickets to the History Theatre for many years. The season ticket process is very flexible. You don't have to reserve seats weeks ahead and if you skip one play, you can use that play's punch to take a friend to another play. The theatre is relatively small and we rarely have trouble getting a "good" seat. (Although occasionally the seat is one that needs to be replaced.) Many of the plays are new works, written for the History Theatre. Almost all of the plays have a Minnesota connection to the story. The most recent is "God Girl". The playwright (a woman) went to an Ivy League seminary in the mid-70's - a time when women were just beginning to go to seminary. She does an excellent job of recounting the discrimination that occurred for women seminary students. I thought the play was well written and the cast did an excellent job of portraying the characters. It was a thought provoking play!

Saw The Buddy Holly Story just this past week. Wonderful theater setting where there is not a bad seat in the house. Great acoustics and a very nice size theater--not gigantic, not tiny. Have seen past shows here as well and they are always entertaining, educational, interesting, and well done. I highly recommend a visit.

Nice tight venue, not a bad seat in the house. The music and artistic production was top shelf (you're even allowed to bring your cocktail in with you while you watch the show). So nice to sip on wine, sit back, relax and watch a great theatrical performance. We saw the Buddy Holly Story, and if you didn't know it, you would have thought it was Buddy himself up there singing on stage. Very well done and very well acted. Even though everyone knows how it ends; there wasn't a dry eye in the house at the end of the performance, when Buddy Holly stood alone center stage front, with just one spot light shinning on him.Nice touch afterwards with a Q&A session with the actors and directors. Instead of leaving sad, the final music tribute allowed us to leave feeling uplifted. Looking forward to our next visit!

We went to see "buddy" it was a great time. the show was a lot of fun with audience participation and great reminiscent music. The Actors are a mix of local professionals and students - so don't expect Broadway touring quality. Actors are somewhere between community theater and local professional (Park, Guthrie) kind of like Chanhassen. Theater seating is comfortable and easily accessible, there are pre-show and intermission drinks available. All in all this was a very fun night.

The Buddy Holly Story production was great. The pre-performance dancing, the actors, the seating comfort, the atmosphere were all just great.

First time at the History Center and saw a free production of "Rent" by the McNally school of music students. Unbelievable talent! I have seen many productions of shows advertised at this theater, but first time there. The location is easy to get to, but as some people have mentioned, not a lot of restaurants nearby. We were fortunate to find street parking for free (after 6pm) but no parking structures exceptionally close.

I LOVED this theatre in every way. All personnel, including ushers, were extremely nice, friendly and helpful. The History Theatre is VERY CONVENIENTLY located right next to the Green Metro Line.

This place does a vast array of places tied to Mn history. The theater is small, intimate. The plays (sometimes musicals) will be of special interest to Minnesotans. Many of them are very well done.

Christmas of Swing is a fabulous show! We grabbed front row seats (still don't know how I got them - as most of the seats are the same price and these 4 were available when many other rows were taken) and enjoyed a tremendouse show with actors practically sitting on our laps. This is an intimate theater and worthy of much praise. Give it a shot and a donation as well and you won't be disappointed.

My first time to attend a play at this theater at this location. I enjoyed the comfortable seating, the good sight lines and acoustics, the stage layout is interesting for how it is used in the production and for the feeling it gave me of being a part of the production. I was seeing a play about a little known (to me) person in MN history and I totally enjoyed the action of the play and the education I received. But ... it seemed to be tricky to park in downtown St. Paul, I was glad I had visited the website to get clear advice on where to park, though it adds to the cost of the theater going experience. The location of the theater in an older Science Museum building is not impressive, but the inside of the theater makes up for it. Hope to attend more of their productions.

Saw The Andrews Sisters' Christmas. Really had a good time. We got front-row seats, although I don't think there is a bad seat. I don't remember an auditorium being present in this building, which is the old old Science Museum. Liked it so much I bought tickets to two more upcoming shows this winter.
