Interesting if you like trains. We liked it because it was kid friendly as well. Can't beat the price, FREE! They do take donations. Only took us about 30 min. to go through it.

Can't beat the price ! FREE ! Kids enjoyed going through the box cars, museum was small, but well maintained & very well laid out.

Historical little gem in downtown Jackson. Free Admission. Large model railroad. My kids love to pull the rope for the train whistle on the flagpole & walk through the train cars. We've been here several times. Great spot!

Given the size of Jackson it's not a bad little place for a small museum. It's not overwhelming but it does have some nice history.

Found this museum while on a geocaching run. Went in and visited the museum, it is everything trains and railroad. So if you are a train enthusiast, model train person, railraod history buff, you really have to visit. Look up the museum director, David Faulk. He is very personable and has a wealth of history on the railroads and how they benefited Jackson, Tennessee. Great story teller!!!

I normally don't write reviews (good or bad) but this place was special. I brought my 2 boys (8 &11) here, by accident. Simply put, we enjoyed the place. Yes, the free admission helped & was surprising. The small unassuming building holds a lot of history & artifacts. The gentleman that runs the building is very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable; he (I wish I would of got his name) is more than willing to fill you on the history. Not to be long-winded. I assumed that we'd only spend about 15 minutes in the place. No, we were there about an hour & a half. Having the kids run about the trains was cool, yet informational and I'm sure they'll remember it for a lifetime. I think, we got lucky to be the only folks there at the time.Listen, just visit the place. If I'm ever back in Jackson; I'll stop by here again, no doubt!

If you like trains or history from the old railroad days. If you are driving from Nashville to Memphis you owe it to your self to take about a hour and check out the depot and museum. They have a very nice model train display there and a dinning car and caboose you can board and tour. Also a lot of pictures from the old railroad days. Also children will love it because it has hands on interactive exhibits as well.

The people working were friendly and knowledgeable. I learned a lot about the train services that used to be in the area. They had a very nice model train exhibit and had a dining car and caboose that you can board and tour. They also had some old pictures from the old railroad days.It is also very interactive which children will love. If you are traveling between Nashville and Memphis it is worth a visit.

Large depot full of interesting railroad history of the area. Great model train setup kids and train buffs will enjoy. The gentleman who answered our questions was very friendly. The older women there seemed horrified when we came in and let us know we only had 40 min. She didn't dampen our visit. Had a few train cars to tour, one was a dining car with a kitchen.

For what it was - it was OK. We did not go in the museum, just the gift shop, and we ate at the restaurant. The food was buffet style and somewhat mediodre. The gift shop was meager. Not bad though, for a day trip.

The rail depot is a neat piece of history. There are some some old engines outside, a rail car, and a passenger car. The flag pole is a train whistle (just pull the cord). Inside there is a lot of history and exhibits. There is a huge train set model that is a replica of old Jackson. The depot is a registered city park and it's city operated yet privately funded. The hours are strange depending on amount of visitors so if your just passing through, call ahead to make sure they are open. Have fun !!!!!!

fancy not being open on a weekend when there are tourists driving around looking for places to explore and experience! Enough said

We arrived after they closed for the day so I can only comment on the outside displays but we liked what we saw. A couple of cabooses and a kitchen/dining car(?). But they had other displays that were hands-on. I'd tell you what they were but you'd laugh cuz I'm not a "railroad" person and will call them the wrong thing. But one was were you can pull the levels they would to move the switches, a cart that runs on the rail and you have to pump in order to move, and something else that changes the flags from red to green - a couple of others but I can't even describe them. Just a nice place to get out of the car and walk around to see things. The inside of the depot looked very interesting as well and we're sorry we missed it.
