I went camping at Nickerson Beach and it was great. The staff was knowledgeable and accommodating especially Michelle. She greeted me with a smile when I came to her office to check in for the weekend. Contrary to what others have posted about the staff on this site they were very helpful and always visible. Michelle and the other residents were constantly walking around the campground at night to make sure campers are abiding by the rules.
The tenting section is mostly run by the homeless population and people going through problems,,, most R/V sites are occupied by locals who use them as there summer homes,, people who stay during the week all go to work, ones that don't rent them out to non-registered drunks,,, for a lot of money , I might add... The staff and res campers ,, there are 4, are mostly unseen unless you park your car for more than 5 mins, The Big shot there( Michelle ) is one of the rudest most foul mouthed person I've ever met..... makes up her own rules, changes your site for no reason and says if you don't like it you can leave,, without giving your money back,, that must go in her pocket ..... Weekends are a Free-For-All in summer, when I was there ,,, no staff to be found at all. My Wife and kids were afraid to go outside,, and the party went on all night,, Quiet hours ????? There are none .... I will never go anywhere near Nickerson Beach again.... unless that whole staff is replaced .... Nassau County should have a campground for All The People of Nassau County,,, not a select few that the staff give to their friends and family members and tell you if you don't like it Leave !!!!! They must be Kidding !!!!!!!!!!
Love it here...great for families with children. Cabanas are a bit pricey, but less expensive than Malibu. Private showers in cabanas but no private rest-rooms.
my first time at nickerson rv park was great. great job by all employees a real family place. had a few friends visit, and they will be getting there own camp sites next year!
Lacks cleanliness and organization. However after a long walk to finally hit the prime water area you will see lifeguards that are serious about there jobs. Family is safe for most part, snack area is ok, decent menu, pool is very small and always getting closed because of cleaning, maybe from kids? Playground is great, overall a ok park. There are amazing places on Long Island...
Pool is small. Park is open to the public, so it gets really crowded and noisy. Better off going to Point Lookout. Facilities are out dated and need a lot of work.
This is a county run campground. It does not have any frills. There is no TV or Wifi, many people have dishes. The pool is also no frills. There is a nice playground steps away and a snack bar. You are allowed one vehicle at your site. Any other cars must be parked in the pay lot. Non resident fees are astronomical for both the parking and the pool pass. Many sites have full hookup. There is a dumping station. I'm not sure about comfort stations. There is a tent only designated area as well. All that said, location is what you get, and its very inexpensive with your resident leisure pass. You are at the beach and have access to the pool (no flotation allowed, no chairs allowed). There are many restaurants minutes away where you can eat some wonderful seafood. We even had pizza delivered right to our site, how great is that? Booking your stay appears scattered. Next year I will plan differently (which means I'm going back, so it was good enough to return). Call early! You must book a min of 7 nights and a max of 14. Therefore, everyone is moving around from site to site. Sunday seems to be the worst day for this. I will probably book from Monday to Monday or Friday to Friday next time. We had to move to a site where the campers were no where to be found and had not packed up yet. So we went to an overflow area until it was ready. You can bring your own enclosed firepit. The campground residents are very helpful. The administration again seemed disorganized. I think with proper planning and some knowledge about how this is run, you can enjoy the sun drenched shore of Long Island.
