ocean view pavilion

Me and my husband's favorite spot. Excellent to view a sunrise or sunset. Great look-out to the harbor and the ocean. Just overall blissful.

this is a solar gazebo that has many types of events through out the year. there is bird banding on the property in the summer, fall pot luck, daily kids activities in the summer. it is operated by two highly respected conservancy women of the island. we are thankful for all they do

The Ocean View Pavilion is a lovely covered shelter located on the site of the old Ocean View Hotel. This pavilion has a pastoral setting and overlooks the ocean.The Ocean View Hotel had the distinction of being the largest hotel on the east coast when it was built. Like many of the older hotels, it fell into disrepair, and in 1965 it burned to the ground. In it's heyday, it was THE place to stay and Ulysses S. Grant stayed at the Ocean View when he visited the island to attend the innauguration of the Southeast Lighthouse.Some of the original foundation is visible and the site is a great spot for a picnic (though beware of poison ivy...better to stay to the mown paths.)A very easy mini-hike for children and the pavilion is very pretty.
