As many times as I have been to Frankfort I never had the time to visit this site for some reason. It sits next to the Orlando Brown House where you actually start your tour with a 15 minute video of the Brown family who helped shaped Kentucky's history. This is a beautiful old house(Liberty Hall) with some beautiful original pieces of furniture, etc,--and a wealth of Kentucky history. There is a garden area that is also quite lovely to view when the weather is cooperative. The admission charge is $6.00 and well worth the time and expense. The tour guides were very enthusiastic and possessed a wealth of information. Granted, I would have liked to have seen more of the Orlando Brown House also but the focus was on Liberty Hall. Also, if you are a fan of Bourbon the Buffalo Trace Distillery is a short drive away on Wilkinson BLVD. Go see both.

Visit on Saturday and Sunday on Labor Day Weekend for artists in the gardens and local fare. Only $3 to get in and children under 12 are free! While here take a walk along the River View Park trail and walk around the block to see the Homes of Celebrities in our early history of our nation. Next door to Liberty Hall is the Orlando Brown House that was build for a family member.

The tour is worth the money and your time because this house and the grounds are gorgeous. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly.

Two beautiful homes and gardens on the banks of the Kentucky River welcome visitors. Unlike many homes built in the 1700's and restored after years of neglect, this was passed directly from the hands of the last family members into the care of The Colonial Dames. This direct passage means that there are many pieces of original furniture, dishes, and decorative items. This gives the house a very different feeling from many historic homes which were rescued from decay and restored using period pieces, but not original furnishings. Both houses are being redecorated after much research to determine reproductions of original paint, wallpaper, and carpets. To top it off, the house even comes with its own ghost! And do not miss the opportunity to stroll in the lovely river bank gardens of native trees and plants.

Be sure to visit Frankfort's Liberty Hall Historic Site. There are two homes on the site. Liberty Hall is now renovated on the first floor. It is absolutely lovely and breath taking! An April Event will display gowns from the Titanic and that era. I hear the dresses are exquisite. Check out their website for details! I plan on going to see the dresses. The mother's garden is worth spending time to see. In the Fall, Art In the Gardens will be a main happening. The site is available for wedding, receptions and meetings.
