Got to museum at opening time. Wonder around gift shop and lobby for 20 minutes. Gave a few holler out's but no casiher. Seen a fellow in the back waved at him but no counter serve. Finally when to the airport to check in to my flight. Looked nice but just did not want to go wondering around in the hangar without paying
This is a small collection but it's well worth the price and time it takes to go through it. An extra plus is the people you'll come in contact with. They are as delightful to talk to as the planes and displays are to see. Thanks to the people who provided and maintain this collection.
When it gets cold out, I am always looking for activities for the kids. My son and I visited here and he enjoyed it very much. The museum has a lot to see in a small space. We saw helicopters, a Cessna, retired military planes, and model planes. Kids will enjoy sitting in the cockpit of some of the planes. We visited the small gift shop afterwards and he chose a toy plane to take home, which he has played with every day since our visit. On our way out, we watched planes and a helicopter land at the airport.
I have to say, I did a wedding there - and the staff went above and beyond my expectations! Super friendly, and it was such a fun place. The guests were able to look at all the planes, and it was truly an unforgettable wedding!
Even though I'm not the biggest aviation buff, I really liked this museum. The volunteer we met was great and came with a lot of interesting information (even though some was a bit "over my head") and made the visit even better. It consists of two parts with many different planes on display. If they have had an old commercial airplane as well it would be perfect.
This little museum at the Lexington Kentucky Bluegrass Airport is actually packed with quite a few interesting aeronautical memorabilia and aircraft. The docents are very knowledgeable about their artifacts and show a genuine desire to share their passion with their guests. They also have a strong sense of patriotism mixed in with Kentucky aviation heritage. A family friendly experience!!
We spent about 2 ½ hours touring the museum with a very knowledgeable pilot guide. There was more aircraft on display than I expected. Nice gift shop. We were happy with our visit.
The museum itself and the aircraft they have are awesome. The only downside is that it is volunteer staffed, usually by quite elderly aviation fans. The day we were there, we had 30 more minutes before the official closing time. The 80+ year old volunteer just decided to start turning off lights in the back hangar, forcing about 10 of us to not be able to finish our visit.
My husband and I took our three grandchildren to the museum and we all loved it. We had a wonderful, knowledgeable guide. The planes are amazing and it was an enjoyable visit. The kids loved the little gift shop and each took home something to remember their visit.
It is a small museum and only takes about an hour to go through it. They have lots of models but most are out of reach of good photographs. Many real planes that span the first manned flights all the way to modern jet age.
This is nice place to visit... either alone to browse the planes and exhibits or bring the kids and let them learn stuff not taught in schools....
Interesting but pretty similar to most museums of this type. Nothing like a Navy or Air force museum. Somewhat of a hodgepodge. For example, next to an F4 was a Cessna 150.
I brought my two children to visit the museum today and we had a good time as my kids liked seeing the exhibits and getting into the planes for "photo ops" as our guide called it. However, when my daughter got into the plane marked with"Linda," the guide proceeded to yell at my child telling her she could not be in that plane even though it was surrounded by "photo op" planes. Given the fact that the plane was not marked off as were other planes, there was no sign on the plane stating to keep off as there were on other planes, and there actually WAS a sign/mat on the plane stating to step on the black surface (pictured below), I am unsure how anyone would know not to touch this particular plane. My daughter was in tears due to the guide's screaming which led all of the participants of the aviation camp to turn around and look at my child and to see where the yell had originated After I made it clear that the guide had scared my daughter and that I did not want him to continue our tour with us, I spoke with another employee about my disappointment. I was told that although he did not see the incident, knew the guide I was talking about and that it was "his personality." In the future I hope "his personality" is not the guide for any children. I also recommend that the "Linda" plane is properly marked if no one is supposed to be on it rather than being positioned and labeled so that visitors would think otherwise. We likely will not return or recommend the Aviation Museum.
Very good stop to make -I actually saw it driving by and decided to see it--im glad I did,,The tour guide was a retired pilot--it was only 8 dollars and his stories were worth it!
Ages 10 to teenagers loved it, especially the one who has had flying lessons and the one interested in motors!
