I loved my visit! There were paintings and quilts, wire worked jewellery and beautiful wooden instruments! One could spend days exploring all of the art on display and for sale in this incredibly unique building! My companion and I ate in the food court and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our dinner. I had chicken pot pie and it was delicious! The staff in the entire building were warm and helpful. And, the play we saw in the theater was wonderful! You NEED to visit!
The signs say Tamarack - "The Best of West Virginia", but they don't tell you what it is! It's an artisans paradise, studios around the outside for all types - glass, woodworking, sculpture, stained glass, pottery, etc., and stores in the middle to purchase unique artworks. There's a cafe, food court, theater, and plenty of unique things to look at. We had some time to kill and stopped in without knowing what it was all about, I'm glad we did.
Tamarack offers some amazing décor all made in WV. The items are displayed very well and there is something for everyone. Nice stop if traveling, the food is amazing.
Beautiful place. Love local art. Plenty to look at. Plan to stay several hours. Grounds make for a good picnic site. Only suggestion I would have is to have artists at work.
So this location is actually better than most I've been to. Nice building, have an information center and lots of various shops. Building is in the form of a circle, making the space seem larger... not that its small, just makes it feel spacious. The concept in some of the "shops" is that you can see the craftsperson(s) working behind glass on various items (a glass shop, a basket shop, etc), each with their own specific workshop. Concept great, but we didn't see anyone working in any of them, which is the draw to begin with for me. Some had crafts-folks in them, but they weren't doing anything. Perhaps warm season is when this place "hops", but in winter was rather of a yawn.
Always stop here when passing through the area, a must see place. Wonderful crafts, glass blowing, woodworking, quilts, paintings, jewelry, etc. Great restaurant with reasonably priced excellent food. Clean restrooms. If you haven't stopped to visit you truly have missed a wonderful experience.
Great place for lunch or dinner. Large menu friendly staff. Store has a variety of items - glass ware, wood products , wines and foods. Nice place to visit for a break on trip . Staff helpful.
While spending several days on vacation in the area we stopped by Tamarack to enjoy some of the best arts and crafts West Virginia has to offer. We found extensive collections organized and grouped by medium in open and pristinely clean showrooms. We were particularly struck by some of the woodworking products; sleek, stylish, and expertly crafted. Even the display cases and counters were works of fine craftsmanship. During our Friday visit the half dozen craft studios visible from the showrooms were not in operation. All-in-all we window shopped for about two hours, learned some about local crafts, and bought a couple of gifts and souvenirs.
I’m a local and visit Tamarack frequently. It’s a great place to see a lot of interesting items handmade from local artists. But hands down the main reason for my would be their food court. Whether you looking for a quick burger, hotdog and fries or a full course meal you won’t be disappointed.
The conference rooms are very spacious w/good acoustics. Lunch was provided by Tamarack staff which was awesome.
There are a lot of handmade items that are not seen that much anymore and there are unique gifts and great wines and foods as well. Nice atmosphere and a great way to break up your trip!
We had a quick visit as we passed through Beckley and were so impressed with the beautiful and high quality arts and crafts. I would love to visit again when I had time to savor it.
This place is full of wonderful creations. If you like to window-shop, it's great. If you like to shop, and buy, it's great. Wood, sculpture, glass, clay, textile, clothing, audio, literary, jewelry, iron, kitchen, preserving, wine, wooden buckets, knives, furniture, toys, dolls, paintings, collages, mixed-media, ... and more. I love Tamarack and am so glad to see people can create such beautiful things, and have the potential for the whole world that passes by on I-64, near Beckley, WV, to appreciate it.
We have been there before but introduced it to granddaughters. They loved it and we had a wonderful lunch there too.
We may travel by Tamarack a few times each year and generally if we are not in a hurry we will stop and walk around a little. Tamarack is a West Virginia arts and crafts center that also host a restaurant from the famous Greenbrier Hotel. They have lots of nice gift items, many hand crafted and all made in West Virginia. There is also art, wine, books and other things of interest. Most items are rather expensive and I don't think they sell a lot of things there, but still very nice to look at and you might find something you just have to have. The food is varied and rather good, and about as fast as fast food. Nice dinning area and if you just want a nice cup of coffee they have a coffee bar.
