We've stayed there several times and have enjoyed our visit each time. Drive the loop drive out by the golf course at dusk and you'll see so many deer you'll hardly believe it. The resort itself is beautiful but the addition of a lovely golf course will be sure to please.

My wife and I skied there today and enjoyed the senior rate as well as no lift lines. Of course being retired we can pick and choose when we ski. Today was a bluebird day, sunny, warm, and little wind. One change in the resort that we is the ability to get to the lifts going to the top of the mountain without having to climb the hill above the lodge. Just ski down to the Schuss triple lift and ski over to the Weiss quad lift. The snow conditions were mostly good today with 1st in the morning being best. We did notice that Canaan curve was getting skied of by the afternoon leaving icy surfaces. One thing we noticed was the Ski Patrol setting a good example, all wearing helmets. We highly recommend skiing with helmets for protection and they are now warm and light.

We took 5 grand children tubing for the day during Christmas break. Wonderful and organized. A nice fire inside and out for warmups. nice clean restrooms. the slopes were safe and well maintained and plenty of workers around to answer any questions we had. Thank you for a "grand" time.

we come every other year on a family trip from 12/26 to New Years. that being said we have stayed in several different cabins over the years and they have no frills but plenty for the ski trip. This year we got cabin 23 and were quite disappointed. Usually the living area comes with outdated sofa, love seat, and a rocking chair. We didn't have a love seat, in fact they put in a really gross ripped worn upholstered chair instead. (we have 8 adults and 2 children) to say this was an inconvenience. so we had to pull out all the dining chairs (some were on the verge of breaking). then in the morning we found out the stove/oven (essential for a week in a cabin in the middle of nowhere) didn't work properly. We called and maintenance came promptly however the issue was not fixed thus meaning our only way of preparing all the food we brought only half way worked…kind of….very frustrating!! There weren't enough dishes and silverware for the 8 of us niether. The restroom sink leaks on top of the counter every time you use it and hot showers were not available as even the first person up in the morning still got cold water! The lodge/rooms however look amazing after the remodel….hopefully the cabins are next on the list!

Resort - Beautiful. Rustic feel. Rooms are cozy and spacious. Suggest the balcony overlooking the valley. Will see lots of wildlife. Room equipped with coffee maker, frig and microwaveRestaurant - great food, reasonable prices. Breakfast and Dinner Buffets. Staff are VERY attentive.Lounge - good food, suggest the crab sliders. Staff are friendly with great customer service. Special note: Billy went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed our food and made conversation. Great example of superb customer service! Thanks Billy.Ski - located less than a mile away in Canaan Ski. Shuttle bus will take you there and departs every 30 minutes. Timberline is about 2 miles away.Davis, WV is nearby and has a small grocery store.Blackwater Falls is beautiful and a must see. Located within a 10-15 min drive of resort. Thomas, WV within 15-20 min which has antique stores and coffee shop with great food.

Our cabin was private, yet easily accessible to the main lodge. Deer came up and ate from our hands. We stayed for the weekend. Rooms were clean, warm and comfortable. You're in the woods, yet you have electricity. Enjoy a nice fire in the fireplace! We loved it!

The Canaan Valley Resort State Park has been part of the West Virginia State Park system since its inception about 40 years ago. It is situated in Tucker County in a natural bowl surrounded by ridges. There is a golf course, hiking trails, and during the winter months, a ski area complete with lifts. The lodge just underwent a massive remodel two years ago. The staff are friendly people, courteous, and helpful. There is one restaurant in the lodge but the food is very good. There is also a sandwich shop if you want a quick meal, just off the lobby. Breakfast is a buffet with many options to choose from. The views surrounding the grounds are spectacular. During the fall the changing leaves will rival any you would find in New England. If you want more privacy, there are modern cabins available and a campground for tents and RVs. It is a great getaway for a romantic weekend, a conference, or a family vacation

We hiked the rim hike after taking the ski lift to the top of the ridge. It was a pleasant hike, but in general their were no "ridge" views. We weren't there in ski season to comment on that aspect.

My boyfriend and I stayed as part of the New Years Eve package and had an absolutely wonderful time! You can't beat the new rooms in the lodge, the excellent food, the great service/friendliness, the cleanliness, and the lift tickets included in the package. The NYE party was great, too. The 2013-2014 trip kind of makes me want to go back for 2014-2015.

I paid $35, at the door, to ski here on MLK day. I found knee deep untracked powder in the trees. It was bluebird. There were maybe 50 people here.Let that sink in.There is very good snow coverage here on most years. As with any ski resort check the snow report to make sure there are runs open. The only major bummer is the lodge, though new, is definitely family oriented / dining hall. The bar is WAY too small. And you have to climb a small hill to get to the chairlift. Parking is also potentially an issue. But if you just want to ski, this place is nice. Definitely plenty of wide chill beginner/intermediate terrain. As with Timberline there are nice glades to explore, many of which have been cleared of shrubs.

You will likely never find a more scenic location for a really good golf course! Nestled in the high valley, you are surrounded by the mountains and the lodge off in the distance. Deer are a common sight. The course gets very light play compared to many resorts and the price is fair for what you are getting.Be prepared. This is a difficult course. But it is a beautiful course and with some practice it can be beat - even by a mid to high handicapper.

Stayed here over the Labor Day weekend. Location is great and lots to do in surrounding areas. I am mixed about the hotel. It was obviously recently renovated and the lobby was nice and our room was great. But a number of the facilities were sub-par. These included:- buffet style restaurant that served Olive Garden type buffet which was really not great for dinner or breakfast. We ate there once and then ate out as I would not eat in Olive Garden! These days in a resort hotel this is not acceptable. - indoor pool looked shabby and hot tub was cold tub as heater was broken. Changing rooms were looking very tired. - outdoor pool was also pretty poor. The club house by pool was more like an old outbuilding and nothing to do for kids by pool. Staff were mixed. Some were super helpful and nice others grumpy and clearly not overly happy. Maybe other parts of the hotel are due to be upgraded in future but currently this means that the overall experience was just about ok but - not great.

There are many things here that you can do. There is a golf course on the property that has amazing views. For the family there is a pool, playground, climbing wall and many other activities. This is a great place with something to do all of the time.

Loved the spacious room and comfy bed. Not much to complain about. The chili and BBQ cookoff just isn't what it used to be.

Was attending a conference, but found time to ride the scenic lift, go hiking, and take in some of the local sites/shopping and restaurants. Since the remodel of the resort-it is Top Notch! I also enjoyed the local towns of Davis and Thomas, WV.
