Great place. A lot of neat gifts and souvenirs. Literally think I saw something that everyone will like. Stop in if you have the chance. We stopped but weren't expecting the shop to be open due to it being sunday, but they were.
Driving on I-10, I stooped in Gross Tate, because of the Billboard sign for Swamp Shop. I stooped to get out of the car & spread my legs, & get a souvenir of LA. This house has been turn into a store with nick nacks , souvenirs , etc.. & a great photo spot too. Working in the Retail & Customer Service jobs the last 30 years. I wish I had this woman on my Retail Team, because She & her Store is all that & a Bag of Chips. Great Customer Service & FQA, Super Store to wast time in & enjoy the conversation & getting to know Grosses Tete, LA. Across the Street is a Welcome Center, & ( baby alligator ), and a old slice of a big tree dating back to 1700's. It's worth the stop.
THIS STORE WAS AMAZING! They have all kinds of cool souvenirs and gifts that remind everyone of Louisiana! They have authentic louisiana cookbooks and recipes, Swamp People T-shirts, jewelery, spices, art, postcards, gator feet, cd's............ETC.............. :) Its PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE and its a good environment for EVERYONE!!!!-Definitely worth stopping at if you want to make your trip complete and unforgettable!!!!! You will definitely ENJOY!
Here's the thing, this place is tres extraordinaire because it is so very touristy and tacky. I really mean no offense. This was someone's house and it has all these bizarre little Louisiana chotchkies in every room. We stopped here last year on our move to Texas. My husband and I just started wanering around, making ourselves at home when the owner appeared. She was very gracious. My purpose was to find things that were made in LA. Like most places, things billed as Louisianain (yes, I know, not a word) are made in China. I have no use for those things. What is a true treasure is that there are some amazing folk art pieces. In back is a barn full of glorious chain saw carvings. I really wanted to buy them all. They were priced very well and we ended up taking three. The reason I'm writing this review is that we are moving yet again, and I wanted to plan our route just to go by the place. If you love quirkly little places where the folks are nice and you are going to find some cool pieces go here. If that's not your thing, this is not worth your time and you will be annoyed that you stopped. It is exactly what it advertises itself to be a purveyor of things that tourists really don't need. I love it and I hope you can appreciate it for being a dying breed of local shops that survive on the kindness of strangers.
We luckily saw the shop's sign from I-10 so we stopped in to change drivers on our way through Louisiana. So glad we did! The shop owner was very friendly and showed us around her large store. Great selection of LA favorites as well as home goods, apparel, jewelry, specialty soaps and other souvenirs. Conveniently located across from the LA Welcome center and I-10 ramp. Prices were reasonable for most items. A fun stop along your route!
Visited the Swamp Shop on April 22nd to attend the Cajan Jam. It was a perfect atmosphere. The unique items in the store were all Louisiana - the staff was friendly and very accommodating. The owner was there and made a point to personally visit with everyone. She was so appreciative with the turn out for the jam session. We have a winner here!
I stopped in just by chance on my way home from a soccer game in Pineville Louisinana. It's not what I expected. Very charming. Prices were very reasonable. I was so impressed. I am going back to do all me Christmas shopping there.
