Living in the area, I am ashamed to say that it's taken acouple of years to take the time to see this attraction. Such a disservice to our veterans....That said, our party consisted of my in-laws, my wife, and myself. We were in town and decided to stop by and show this museum to the in-laws. For a small building close to the town square, it is PACKED with a lot of history! Arranged chronologically, you are able to tour the building, admiring the artifacts, and reading some of the personal letters, notes, and plaques explaining the importance of each war and each contribution from a veteran and/or family of a veteran. It becomes more than a few paragraphs from a history book when you see these things in person, when you can see and read about those who fought for our freedom! SO INSPIRATIONAL! PLEASE take the time to see this museum, honor those who served, and remember those who 'gave all' so that we can be free!

If in the Athens area take the time to find this little gem and visit. My son & I first visited with our Scout Troop a couple of years ago. He enjoyed it so much that last year when I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday, he said he wanted to go back to the Veterans Museum. \I don't recall there being a fee but donations are accepted.

On a recent family road trip, my husband who is also a veteran, saw the signs along the interstate and decided to drop in. We were pleasantly surprised by the massive collection of items from all the wars. We have 8 year old twins that lived the stories of the volunteers. We wandered through for about an hour and a half. A good leg stretch that packed in a history lesson for our children- expanding their appreciation for the sacrifices of our soldiers in the past and currently serving. Well worth the stop. They operate on donations only, so please visit the gift shop. They also have several displays throughout that recognize the women who have served in the different wars. Loved it!!

This is a nice little museum with lots of artifacts beginning at the civil war and continuing through the UN wars, Korea, and Vietnam. Where it falls short is the omissions of the Gulf of Tonkin incident where the US was lied into Vietnam by Lyndon Johnson, the USS Liberty incident where Israel bombed, torpedoed and Napalmed a flagged US Navy ship in international waters and the numerous other UN adventures ( Desert Storm, Kosovo, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan). It would also be interesting to see a display with the new uniforms with the UN emblem as well as an exhibit of the drones used in overseas and now domestically.

The museum is packed with interesting displays and there are several volunteers eager to make your tour an interesting one, or you can take a self-guided tour and linger over each display as long as you want. Definitely worth visiting!

Great displays arranged in an interesting and easy to view manner. Excellent staff and volunteers who are knowledgeable and helpful. A wealth of information is located in the Library upstairs. The Museum sponsors and participates in many community activities, including a monthly "coffee call". This is an attraction that Athens can be proud publicize.

This center is really Quite interesting, Quite full, and you'll spend Quiet a lot of time there! The collections and displays are many and they keep adding to them. History thru-out our ages. The volunteers are there to help you if needed. It is definitely worth the trip to catch up on and review our history.

War times across history link us to freedom! A number of memorabilia is on display here. A self guided tour and access to those who will tell you of the history! Wonderful displays. Nearby park affords you a picnic and Lawler's BBQ offers reasonable price for lunch! Great place to show your children history of war!

I visited to look at a display of a friend that had submitted their World War II property. Everything is displayed in an outstanding manner, staff is friendly and helpful.

You want to stand and salute those who served our country well. Located near the railway in Athens AL Three blocks off the square to the north on Pyror st. Filled with great memoribelia. History of wars shine here. Coffee call on Saturday you get to meet and talk to veterans who served. Always someone who can share our great nations stuggles in war and peace. Thank you service person for all you do to keep us a FREE nation. God Bless.!
