The Phillips County Museum has quite a collection of objects from the past of Helena, Arkansas. The Civil War displays are great and especially the Battle of Helena July 4, 1863 diorama and the Confederate Cemetery diorama are worth the visit. The museum docent is quite friendly and knows the history and stories of Helena.

This battle covers the history of Helena, Arkansas. With special emphasis on Helena's role in the Civil War. There is a cool diorama and historical artifacts. There are two rooms with and upstairs in one. This museum takes less than 1 hour to tour, a good stop if you're in Helena.

The old part of Helena, Arkansas is falling apart, but the museum is great. The museum is run by older people who have seen a lot of changes in Helena and are most helpful and friendly. For the most part the museum is dedicated to the Civil War and major battle there on July 4, 1863. There is a large diorama depicting the battle which gives you a great idea of how it developed. There is a regimental flag from the war and many weapons. There are old clothes from the Victorian age and even some pottery from the days of Native Americans. The museum is not far from the location of Fort Curtis that was the heart of the Federal occupation. Though the original fort does not exist, a replica of it now exists and well worth seeing. Helena-West Helena is like many places, having financial difficulties and lack of jobs, but worth a look see.

Interesting local history museum with an informed docent to fill you in on the background of the exhibits, well worth a visit if passing through this area. The town itself is fairly decrepit as are many within the Mississippi Delta.
