This used to be a great little museum for kids and history buffs, but no more. This is no longer the National Heritage Museum. There are some interesting pieces on display, but few exhibits. The exhibits which were so great for kids about the Revolutionary War period are gone. A few antique toys are still on display. Nice for a half hour if you happen to be right in the neighborhood, but I won't make the drive here again and I wouldn't bring children.

This American History museum is free, and you can do the whole think in about half an hour. Plenty of parking and easy access. If you have a few minutes, stop in and enjoy.

This museum is free (donation is optional). Great little museum to go to. Gives you the history of Lexington and has rotating exhibits. Free parking. Christmas time has a fun train exhibit every year.

I guess the changes reflect the sharp decline in Masonic membership but what was always my first stop in giving tours of historic Lexington is now largely a museum of masonic lore. It used to be a great museum of the American Heritage. I will miss it.

We stumbled upon this museum during the liberty ride. Coming from a Masonic heritage we decided to go back a take a look. It had such interesting items and you learn of all of the historical icons who were free masons this museum made me proud of the history of masons in our country. It is worth a quick stop to soak up additional history great statues outside as well.

We have passed this museum several times on our jaunts to Maine, but always on days or hours when it's closed, so we rearranged our trip this year. So glad we did! This place is a gem with some lovely Americana, informative exhibits and very nice restrooms. We arrived before official opening hours and we were very kindly allowed in. Great for a short stop, but also beautiful grounds for walking or romping if you have small kids who need to run!

Nice little stop. Very well-done museum, and a pretty place to walk around. And this is more to say.

Absolutely loved it. Historical interesting and very well done and will be back when it is warmer to further enjoy.

The signs at the gates now say "Scottish Rite Museum and Library," as does the sign over the door. I was there today for a (very good) lecture, but the museum lobby and cafe were large barren spaces, not welcoming and interesting as I had remembered them from a few years ago. Something must be happening but I don't know what it is.

The museum here is fantastic, they have one of the two lanterns that Paul Revere hung in the Old North Church before his famous Midnight Ride. But, the REAL treasure is the library here, take some extra time and really enjoy this treasure.

Over the past 10 years, we'd been the this museum perhaps a dozen times. The museum is now essentially gone, at least for now, and only a small portion of it will ever return. The Scottish Rite, that owns and operates it, is consolidating its offices into the building and selling its other buildings and some part of their property. Currently (Feb 2013) there is construction of the new offices and almost all of the displays and exhibits are closed. There was only a small gallery of Masonic quilts and a few other artifacts on display. The great maps of the area that used to stand in the entry hall are not up and the Revolutionary War exhibit is gone. According to reception, the museum will re-open some things once construction is done - the maps will return, but the Revolutionary War exhibit will not.It makes me truly sad to say that, with the exception of Masons, this place is no longer worth the trip.

A wonderful museum that is very different from most. The operative mission of this museum is HERITAGE and its exhibits represent and demonstrate some of the best of that. Exhibits changed occasionally but all keep up the mission statement and they dos o very well. In addition there are some standin exhibits which are also quite interesting.

This unexpected gem in Lexington was a delight. Not too big and not too small. Lots of informative exhibits. We've been twice and never been disappointed. Parking is easy too.

This is handsome museum featuring exhibits of Masonic interest but also a nice collection of American antiques and memorabilia, and other special exhibits. Entrance is free, with convenient parking and close to Lexington Center.

This museum also offers concerts, talks, seasonal festivals and activities for the young. Its exhibits are often very timely and always educational.
